Would you/have you ever considered a long weekend (in other words a very short jaunt) more than 500 miles away. If you did please tell me about your trip especially if you came from mid-atlantic or northeast. We've had a really tough time lately with several issues and I am feeling that the only thing that could bring me around would be a trip to WDW. It could only be a few days because of school.

I have made the jaunt fcrom Orange Co. NY to WDW a few times, including the day I got my first new car when I was 16!

I must say that I never did it for only a long weekend. WE did it so it took 2 days to get there because we always slept one night, usually in NC, plus we always stopped at South of the Border (tacky..but I long standing tradition since I first went in the 70's).

You would really have to power through the driving.

If you do drive, stop at every cracker barrell restaurant and get a book on tape, keep your receipt and then exchange it at the next cracker barrell when your done. IT is great & cheap!

I would look to fly. You can get low fares on airlines like Spirit, Airtran and even american and with the magical express...it's pretty easy.

Oct 04 we flew from Laguardia to MCO for $44 each way and it was a fabulous plane with large leather seats and it was immaculate.

Hope this helped!

As a kid we did a long weekend Thurs-Sun for Easter (yuck). But just recently BF took me down in Dec for my bday in 04 and 05 a Thurs-Sun and a Wed-Sun.I am a teacher so summer is usually only when I can go. But the last 2 weekend trips were able to fit in becaus of my schedule change.

I would say go for it. And maybe just focus on your fav park and fav restaraunt that will surely brighten your day!

(04 bday was one I didn't want to celebrate--wasn't ready for it--it was easy to in WDW!-Made me feel better!)

We did 4 nights 5 days from Me. to WDW in Jan. and while it felt short compared to what we usually do it was great! I'd do it again. usually I feel like if I am going to fly and pay for a flight I want to stay awhile but it was a nice break.

If it wasn't a 10 hr flight each way, I'd do it!

Go for it!! my sister and i are going to WDW for a "sisters" weekend at the end of May and we live in Maryland! we are flying down friday night after work (she's a teacher), staying at a value resort for three nights and leaving monday night to come home...without husbands and my two-year-old son! :cool1:

we've been to WDW many times and this is just a short little bonding vacation for us! we need one!

my sis even went last august to WDW for a day! yes, you heard me...my family went to visit my brother when he was stationed in jacksonville, and we went to MGM for the day. and all she could fit in her and her hubby's schedule to visit was one day...so they flew down in the morning and stayed for the day with us in MGM and flew back the same night! now that's a disney fanatic! well, she also wanted to see our brother too! :teeth:

We haven't done it yet, but definately would if the right airfare came around!

Wow! Thanks for all the words of encouragement! I think it may be a possibility the end of May/beginning of June. I just found out kids are getting out a few days earlier because of not using snow days. I've been trying to throw little hints to DH about how important it would be to get away, etc. Hopefully soon we'll be able to get our finances straight and set a little aside for Disney.:cheer2:

DH and I took a 3-day weekend over the MLKjr holiday. We're from N.J. We flew. First whole weekend away from kids in 10 yrs. VERY GOOD IDEA!!! Definitely worth a little penny-pinching to save up for it!! :woohoo:

I live in Ft. Lauderdale and many Saturdays we have driven 4 hours to Key West, eaten lunch, and driven 4 hours home. We LOVE doing that!!!! It is an absolutely gorgeous ride!!!!! You only live once, HAVE FUN!!!!! :Pinkbounc :wave2: :yay:

We're doing along weekend from Fri-Tues in December. Just to get away from the snow a little! Actually, if it goes like this past year, we'll only be getting way from the cold.

I did a long weekend my last trip to WDW (pregnant) and I'm doing it again in June. This time I'm planning better though because I'm taking 2 kids (vastly different ages).

Last time started as a business trip to Tampa that my DH had to accompany me on (problem pregnancy lifting restrictions). We decided to make a long weekend of it. We flew in early Thursday, rented a car, I worked all day, and Friday we left for WDW. We visited MK and Epcot at a leisurely pace. I waited until the last minute to make hotel reservations (made them 10 minutes before leaving Tampa and heading to WDW) so we stayed off-site, but we had a car and it wasn't a problem. We drove back to Tampa on Sunday and spent a few hours at Busch Garden before out late flight home.

This June, with 2 kids, we are flying into Tampa and will arrive early Friday afternoon. DH will get to see a baseball game (which he loves) at Tropicana Field. We will drive to WDW Saturday morning and check in at the Poly. With 2 kids (one a toddler that needs a nap) and such a short trip I wanted a monorail resort for convenience. Sunday we'll spend the day (except naptime) at MK. Monday is character breakfast, back to the room to pack, check out at 11:00 and off to the airport (MCO for the return flight) to drop off the rental car and fly home. We'll be land in Detroit at 6:19 pm and have the kids home before bedtime.

Some may not think it worth the cost of airfare ($900 for 4 of us and my toddler is half price to buy him a seat insteap of lap child) to go for such a short trip. But with my job I can't always take a big chunk of time off. Still I need a little vacation and want to celebrate DS's 2nd b-day at WDW. Plus school is still in session in Michigan and my niece has final exams 2 days after we return so extending our trip isn't an option. So we are going. A short trip is better than no trip at all.

We've done a 3-day trip before. We just limited our trip to 2 parks. I say go for it. :thumbsup2

ABSOLUTELY!!!! DO IT, I WENT FOR A LONG WEEKEND TO BOARDWALK IN THE VILLAS WITH POINTS, WELL WORTH IT, IT GIVES YOU A TASTE OF HAPPINESS, BRINGS YOU OUT OF A SLUMP, AND GETS YOU ALL THE MORE EXCITED FOR THE NEXT TIME. YOU CAN TELL YOURSELF THAT NEXT TIME I COME I'M GOING TO DO THIS, AND THAT. WE LOVED IT.AND WE CAME FROM MASS. SEARCH FOR GOOD AIRFARES AND DO IT. JET BLUE IS USUALLY PRETTY CHEAP TOO. :wizard:

Definitely do it! :thumbsup2 DF and I went in Feb for 4 nights. We flew on Airtran. We left after work on Thurs (what a long day THAT was!) and came home on Monday. We planned 3 park days and the last day was hanging at the resort and shopping. The toughest part is to choose which resort NOT to go to! It definitely helps rejuvenate the spirit, but tires out the body :goodvibes Good luck and have a great time!

I live in Queens New York, and I know this is a bit different, but my mother and sister and I flew to Las Vegas early Saturday morning, and left to come home on Monday. We were able to take in a lot of sights, and I stayed up almost all night in the casino. If I didnt go to the casino, we would have been able to see even more, but the trip was awesome for bonding. Definitely worth it! EXHAUSTING, but worth it. I may be wrong here, but IMHO wanting to see everything in Vegas, in August in 110 degree heat may be more exhausting than Disney. It depends on how much you want to get done. Go with low expectations on seeing EVERYTHING, and you wont be disappointed.
