How Competitive are You?

I am competitive to a certain extent. But I am generally not a sore loser. How about you?

My boss does not think I am very competitive. My last evaluation even stated that I do not compete. "Incompetent" I think it said. Boss may need spell check since that is a weird way to say I am not a sore loser. :P

I'm not a sore loser. I can be competitive when I need to be. But most of the time, I just don't give a crap.

Well, I'd much rather win, so if that makes me competitive? Okay!

Unfortunately, I'm highly competitive. I have to be the best. I didn't play sports when I was in school, so my competitiveness came in the form of academics. I HAD to get straight A's and be the top of the class, or I would get incredibly frustrated. Got some pretty excellent scholarships out of it, though! I definitely have a type A personality. I linked some of the traits of individuals with Type A personalities, and besides the high blood pressure, this sums me up exactly.

"Competitiveness

Type A individuals tend to be very competitive and self-critical. They strive toward goals without feeling a sense of joy in their efforts or accomplishments.

Inter-related with this is the presence of a significant life imbalance. This is characterized by a high work involvement. Type A individuals are easily ‘wound up’ and tend to overreact. They also tend to have high blood pressure (hypertension).

Time Urgency

Type A personalities experience a constant sense of urgency: Type A people seem to be in a constant struggle against the clock. Often, they quickly become impatient with delays and unproductive time, schedule commitments too tightly, and try to do more than one thing at a time, such as reading while eating or watching television."

I am very competitive and a sore loser. If I lose, I will usually put on a good face, and then go sulk alone. Mature? No. But I try to be nice to winners.

I am not competitive at all. I am at an age where I am living the life I want and I don't need to beat anyone to anything.

Since "incompetent" means you are incapable of performing adequately, I'd definitely be getting the boss to revise his evaluation if he's unintentionally used the word incorrectly. No way would I want "incompetent" to be part of any permanent record in my HR file.

I think it was a joke meant to be a play on "in" often meaning not and the spelling of compete.

At work I am very competitive and I am not a sore loser I genuinely feel happy for whomever wins. But, I have been in situations at work where the "playing" field is not equal. I am not the laid back type. I will voice my concerns, I don't whine about it, I state the facts and sometimes people "especially" my boss hates to be told they are wrong. She is also aggressive and competitive but her frustration of being told she's incorrect closes up any room for discussion.

I'm a healthy competitive person.

What I mean by that is I like to win, but not at the expense of hurting others.

With my 12yr old DD playing softball at an elite level I've learned how overly competitive people hurt so many people
I sometimes wonder if I'm going to survive with these parents because I'm not wired this way.
The things people will say and the things that people will do is just craziness - absolute craziness.

I would get no joy from winning if someone else is hurting because of it.

Same here, I've won enough that competition is a non-starter now. Thankfully my job does not rely on competition or quotas or deadlines.

I'm competitive. I play to win! However, I am a gracious winner and loser. No rubbing it in, and no pouting. ::yes::

I am very competitive by nature but being as I'm not super-good at anything, I live a fairly frustrating life...:rotfl2:

Yep. Over the years, I've found countless things at which I suck. So I avoid competition. I don't know if I'm just non-competitive, or if I AM competitive and hate losing so much that I avoid the chance by not competing. I tend to think the latter, since I'd really like to compete, but the chance of losing makes it not worthwhile.

I'm much less competitive than I used to be. I had to give up some of that nature when I starting dating DH and had to accept the fact that he'd beat me sometimes at some things. I still get displeased when someone other than him wins, or when we're on a losing team, so the competitive edge remains. However, I'm not particularly competitive when it comes to my job. It's my personal opinion that you don't want to make enemies of your co-workers. Right now I'm technically as high as I cand go where I work (without a drastic change of job scope), so I really don't have anyone to compete with.
