If you ask at checkin if the room assigned to you is HA and they say no and it turns out to be HA, can they still charge you the $25.00? I mean you ask up front and they told you no. There have been several posts indicating the CM stated a room was not HA and it turned out to be HA, I was just wondering..smjj
I wasn't charged the $25 after I found out my room was HA when I did ask at check in not to have HA. I actually didn't even know about that until I read it here.

I have only gotten a HC room once when I didn't ask for it, and didn't get a HC room twice when I DID ask for one. I asked for a 1 bedroom at OKW--they put me on the first floor, but it was non-HC. I requested one at BW, and got a regular room on the 3rd floor. I was told that it was first come-first serve, and laughed at them! After reading this board, I know better than that. :rotfl2:

The total number of wheelchair accessible rooms is less than 4% of the total number of rooms in the resorts.
I don't have time right now to search for more specific info, but that's what I remember of what the ADA requires.

Are you sure? Is this 4% of all dvc rooms because allears has BWV as having 29 HA rooms out of 383. thats 8%.

Id like to see some %'s for dvc'ers who have received HA rooms without asking.
Something just seems so out of whack. Even Chuck S's 4 HA rooms in 30 stays(which seems low) means hes received a HA room in 13% of his stays.

Thats way too high of a number.

this is another ridiculous reason that these rooms shouldnt just be passed on to just anyone. What happens when someone needs one and cant get one?

First come first serve, please, its probable that every single one they served before you didnt even want a HA room. this is just dumb and needs to be reviewed.

We've gotten HA rooms 33% if the time, that's even higher! The first time we didn't ask, and were told we'd have to pay to move. The second time, I didn't ask and wasn't charged to move. The third time, I was getting nervous by then, I asked and the CM didn't answer me. So when I got to my room and discovered it was HA, I was really angry-not at the room being HA, but at the front desk CM, for avoiding my question. So when I called the manager, I think one of the first things I said was, "And I'm NOT paying the $25 room change!" So I don't know if they would have charged me but, listening to my anger, they decided it was in their best interest not to.

geez, 33%. thats my fear, while i dont necessarily mind them i dont want HA rooms on 33% of my trips for the next 50 years.

So far we are 100%, but thats only 1 trip.

It's only happened to me once and that was in late January 2004. It did not bother me.

I don't think the % are out of whack. We have to remember that only a small % of DVC members actually post on the disboards. Then when you have a poll like this, you have to expect a high % of the poster to have actually been given a HC room.

Now some comments regarding HC rooms. My opinion only.

If you have a studio, and need a bathtub(kids, trouble taking showers, etc.) then I understand not wanting an HC room.

If you have a 1 bedroom and have young kids(kitchen dangers) then I understand not wanting an HC room.

Am I missing any other catagories?

It also seems that DVC reservations could do a better job insuring that people that want a HC room would get one.

see I tend to think in the opposite way. I think that if the %'s are this high for those on the disboards then they are probably at least as high if not higher for those members not posting here. (between requests ahead of time, arriving early, asking at the desk about the room, etc)

I honestly do not understand how these rooms can be given to anyone but cash guests. Isnt dvc required to keep some on hand for a certain period of time for guests that many actually need them

When BCV opened, the YC/BC/BCV general manager said that 10% of the rooms at BCV were Handicapped Accessible (29 rooms). That struck me as unnecessarily high, though I may change my mind in 30 years. Does anyone know the figures for the other DVC resorts?
