How comfortable is the Contemporary daybed? Debating Contemporary vs. Dolphin

We're long-time Disney fans, but we're frugal and usually stay "cheap." We decided to do something big this year and celebrate our youngest child turning 13 in August. He wants to spend 2 days in MK and 2 days in HS.

So our debate is Contemporary vs. Dolphin. We have 3 teens who are adult-sized.

Our oldest would be in the daybed at the Contemporary. Can anyone comment on whether it's comfortable? The positive about this resort is the proximity to MK, but the Dolphin is closer to HS.

Which would you pick?

That a tough one. The Contemporary (CR) is the largest room at ~425 SQ FT and the Dolphin (D) is 360 SQ FT. The CR has 2 Queens and a day bed which the 13 yr should love.

The D has 2 Double beds and you can get a roll-away for the 5th sleeper. The room will be crowed but workable. It should also be about 1/2 the price of the CR.

It probably depends on how big your oldest is. I find the daybeds at CR to be very comfortable, but I'm only 5'2". The day bed feels like a real twin bed to me.

I like the Dolphin, but, I believe they only have double beds there, not queens. We once booked a suite there (1 king, a living room with a pull-out and two doubles) and it priced out less than a standard room at Poly - maybe something to consider if you would like more space? You need to call the Dolphin directly to book the suites.

If you are thinking of only booking one, standard room, I think with I would go with CR as the room will be bigger.

Thank you both! My daughter is 5'4", so if it feels like a twin that would definitely be fine. The Dolphin is tempting price-wise and I would easily picked that one, if they had queen sized beds.

I think she will be comfortable! Just a thought, I'm not sure which room category you are considering at CR, but we really like the garden wing there. The rooms in that section tend to be cheaper than the tower rooms. We like the location because it's quiet and it's actually easier to access the MK path and other park buses from there. Might be something to consider if you are trying to save some money.

Also, if you are interested in the Dolphin, you may want to price out the Swan. They have queen beds instead of doubles.

We're considering the garden wing. I found a package through Costco. We just need to make a decision before everyone else decides to book a trip ;).

The garden wing rooms are definitely a steal compared to the tower rooms. Just a word of warning: I used to be a TA and some clients felt like the vibe was different in that part of the resort. That it didn't feel as special staying there. Part of the great charm of CR is to walk out of your room and see the monorail, for instance.

It doesn't bother me as much, but I just don't want you feeling disappointed once there, since this is a special trip. :-)

We stayed in a CR Garden Room last month. My 13 YO son who is 5'1 stayed in the daybed and said it was totally fine. You will be much more comfortable in that set up than in the Dolphin with a roll-away taking up so much floor space IMHO. I don't mind the Garden Wing at CR, it is quieter and easy to get a 1st floor room and not have to wait on the elevator, plus close to the pool. For a special trip I think that would certainly be my choice. You can't beat the walk to MK (and Swan/Dolphin now no longer use Disney buses - you have to take their shuttle to TTC), plus you'll save some $ with having free Disney transportation to/from the airport if you are flying (assuming you are talking about August 2021).

Thanks for the heads up on the Garden Wing! I look at the Contemporary map to see where the Garden Wing is compared to the towers and that's definitely doable. I love the idea of being able to walk back to hotel after a day at MK. We're flying in August 2021, so having transportation to and from the airport would be a nice plus!

I slept on it for 5 nights in 2019. I am 5'3" and weigh about 150. I sleep in a Tempurpedic bed at home. This one was almost as good. I found it more comfortable than the actual beds. It was like a memory foam. I loved it. Your daughter will be fine.

Our room was in the Garden wing. It was fine. I've also stayed in the tower and prefer it overall, but the actual rooms are the same size.

Haha, my family was all about the value resorts when we first started staying on property! Then we tried a mod or two, then ALL of them. Then we tried a deluxe "as a treat" and now that's all we ever book!
