How come I can't change my Delta seats??

I am wondering why this happens:

I went to the Delta website ,as I religiously do everyday, and noticed that one flight was changed. It was only changed by 5 minutes, no big deal. But I noticed we were put on another plane and our seats were further in the back of the plane. When we originally purchased, we were in the front of the plane. When I tried to select different seats, the system would not allow me to change them. Why would this happen? The new flight was confirmed. Any ideas?

The system should let you do this - assuming that there are other seats available. Try again and if it doesn't work, call them.

Did the plane model change? Some airlines reserve the seats in the front for their preferred frequent flyers.

I haven't flown in a while - I am flying Delta - does Delta change your flights often - I just check mind and they are still the same.

Did you call to confirm the new flights/planes? If not, you sometimes have to clear the queue of flight changes before they will come up with the seats. This happened to me when I booked my flights and they kept changing the times - like by 5 minutes and then back to normal and then by 5 minutes again. It was kind of stupid. I called, cleared the confirmations of the changes and then could choose my seats again.
Have you tried to move them over the phone?

If you are trying to go too far forward (first few rows) those rows are reserved first for Delta's Frequent Flyers.

I just wanted to update on what the case was:

Thanks ktglads! I just had to call to confirm. I sent an e-mail since I couldn't get through to cs. They confirmed me and I was able to switch the seats. I am sure it will happen again, but thats ok.

I always call the airline and speak to a rep to get my seat assignments. I've been moved around lots when I ddn't make the calls. Having made the calls now 6 trips later I have never been moved. I am not a frequent flyer on any particular airline, I book on price and flight times. so I am not on any frequent flyer program.
