We have one person in our party who will not know until really close to the time of the trip if he'll even get to go at all. My question is two-part:

Part one: How close to the trip can a guest be added to ME?

Part two: If he cannot be added to the ME reservation in time, what are his transportation options to/from MCO? The best case scenario for us would be that he could buy a seat on ME and still ride with the rest of the group, but I have no idea if that's possible.....:confused3

Thanks for any information!

I booked DME one time about 5 days before we left. Now, I didn't get my info packet, but that was okay since I was traveling with carryon baggage only.
So...if you have already booked DME, you should be able to add someone up to a day or so before you travel. This person will not get luggage tags though, since they most likely would have been sent out already. But, you are given two tags per person on the reservation. I never use all our tags, so if this is the case for you, you could give your friend one of the extra luggage tags.
As long as a person is listed on a room reservation at a WDW resort, they are entitled to a ride to, and from, MCO. I would call and add your friend as soon as you know he is coming.
As for other options...I know that there have been people that have walked up to the Mears desk, paid for a ride to WDW and been put on the DME bus. But, you can't walk up to the DME checkin counter and pay for a ride. I would play it safe and add your friend as soon as his plans are firmed up.

Will it change the price of your room reservation to add this extra person?? If not, go ahead and add him. If he doesn't show, than not a problem.

If it does change the package price (extra adult charge, more dining, or tickets, then just call and add him as soon as you know.)

It is correct that he will not get his own yellow tags if it is less than 10 days out, but the same thing happened to us for a trip last May. We added an extra person. They printed her voucher to board the bus when we arrived at the DME Welcome Center. She used one of my son's yellow tags.
