This is just kind of a fun thread but it's amazing how the mind works ! ( inside this head anyway....LOL)

Anyway, here goes. DH says lets take a few days of f for "the birthdays" ( mine 7/25, ds7/13 and ds#2 7/23) and go away instead of having a big birthday bash and presents. So we discuss it with ds age 8 and he is for it. So we are thinking Williamsburg/ Busch Gardens for 3 or 4 days. Staying in cheapest possible hotel etc....

Well of coarse the old wheels start turning in my head and I just have to do a price comparison to what WDW would cost for the same 4 nites.....

Well.....hotel....enough pts here
tickets......ap's in use!
So would the price of the plane around 900-1000 for the 4 of us off set the price of hotel and park tickets at Busch Gardens ?? Also throw in a few breakfasts not eaten out at WDw....it's a close contender !!

Anyone else think this way ??

I recently found good fares to Tampa (Memorial Day weekend), and had Busch Gardens, Tampa tickets that needed to be used. Made plane reservations, made hotel reservations in Tampa, then thought "Wait, we will be awfully close to WDW." Cancelled Tampa hotel reservations, called Member Services, and used points for two nights at AKL. Fun!

To celebrate our anniversary and my new job, we thought of going to Caesars Resort in the Poconos. We then found a great deal on USAir for $99 from Phila. to Orlando. So we used our annual pass rate to book 3 nights at All Star Sports and the other 3 we stayed at OKW (We couldn't get in OKW or any other DVC for the whole time). We just got back and spent 6 wonderful nights at Disney for less money than the other trip would have cost!:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earseek:

I go other places - but yea I miss WDW big time - last year went to Williamsburg and Hilton Head (Marriott not DVC) - but I miss WDW.....

this year I am going to Panama City Beach to my other timeshare and I will see how much I miss WDW - last year I was there only a few days and loved it (my brother's family had the rest of the week). I really hope I love it this time and by Wednesday won't be wishing to be at WDW.

all of those places were timeshares and I drive - so the cost to the HH was less than WDW - and I really wanted to go to Williamsburg - but I won't go again until mother quits trying to go with me - she was a real problem on that trip and we won't be there again - of course with friends it might have been a great trip.

Hilton Head was beautiful - peacefully - relaxing - the waves on the shores - very nice - but still I miss WDW.....

I love it!!! So I'm not the only one ??
By the way Waltskids...the Caeser's in the poconos is fun for an anniversary trip if you have never been. One or two nites is plenty though! Also Big Bucks in my opinion...but the Champagne Glass Tub and Heart Shaped Pool is something everyone should experience once in their life time!! LOL.....

Now WDW is more our Speed!! Especially with the ds's!

This is our first summer in 6 years that we aren't going to WDW; plus we have spent the last three birthdays for our son at WDW. This year, he wanted to go home. He was born in Montana and just couldn't remember it any more. So we're headed West this year, with stops in Glacier National Park and Yellowstone.

I looked at the school schedule for Winter Break. I always take off and spend time with the boys during their school breaks, and we always do special activities (spend money) so I called MS and was surprised to find availability for Christmas week. Now we get to do something REALLY special!

Since we drive to WDW, distance vs. time on vacation is always a factor. So if we just have 2-3-4 days, we go to Williamsburg, Charlottsville/Ashville, and maybe even OC Md.
Any time off for a week or more and it's always Disney.

I just came back from a 4 day stay in Ocean City, Maryland. I spent about $650 for 3 nights and a couple low-cost meals. LET ME SAY - I AM THOROUGHLY SPOILED BY DISNEY!!!! We have had 3 WDW and one Vero Beach Vacation in the last year and a half. Nothing came even close to the standards that Disney maintains.

I told my husband any beach vacation will now be at Vero or Hilton Head. The points for a studio, even a one bedroom, are fairly modest if they are during the week. We can drive to HH or take the auto train to Vero, and come out way ahead budget wise AND have a Disney experience.

I hadn't planned to use my points for beach vacations, but I do now. I see another addon in my future! Sandie

As our children grow into the appropriate age, we plan to show them the world. It's a lot bigger than WDWorld.

I'm with rocketier.

My son is from South Korea. He is a little young for a trip there yet, but it will need to happen - and ideally we'd do it twice.

My husband was born in Holland. He'd like to get back there. And there is plenty of the rest of Europe that we could make several trips.

There is the great USA - Grand Canyon, San Francisco (my son is dying to see Alcatraz - I have photos from a trip I took there), Mammoth Cave, Washington DC, the Baseball Hall of Fame - all on the list.

We actually only bought enough points for Disney every other year on purpose so we would be encouraged to go other places.
