Made rezzie a while ago and paid the full deposit at that time - room only rezzie. Just got a letter about room rate increase stating we owe more $ because the one night's cost room rate went up and hence the deposit went up. This has never happened to us before - what's the deal?! Somebody help me please - I'm having a Disney meltdown! :scared1:

That's horrible!!!
I hope they don't do that to us!!
You should call and complain. it's not fair. you booked it with a set price and they can't do that.

Was your trip for 2008? That's usually the only time they raise rates, they will charge you the going rate for 2007 then have you pay the difference when the new rates come out.

Was your reservation for a trip in 2008? If so, 2008 resort rates were only released very recently. If a reservation is made prior to the release of resort rates, the procedure CRO has always used is to book the reservation at 2007 rates and then adjust the nightly rate when 2008 rates are released.

I agree with the others if your room is for 2008. Last year or so the county raised the room tax. Disney did reprice everyones room even if it was paid in full so yes they can do that.

I guess we'll change how often we vacation at WDW. We've been so many times but I guess we'll try Universal or other. I'm so discouraged. It doesn't seem right to change a confirmed reservation regardless of what the fine print states. I'm going to cry.

Again, as others have said - if the reservation is for 2008 the rate was never confirmed. When you book for the next year before the rates have been announced, they only guarantee the room, not the rate (since there is no rate to guarantee). I think they just came out with the 2008 rates last week, didn't they?

I don't think it's abnormal for your rate to change, especially if you booked for next year when rates were obviously going up. Anytime you book it's kind of understood that rates can change at any given time and therefore they might affect your vacation, that's with Disney aswell as other properties.

I'm sorry you feel like they got over on you or something of that nature and if your reservation is for sometime in the near future (this year) then I could understand being a little surprised. However, like others have said if you booked for next year room rate increases would take affect and therefore change your balance.

Sorry.

Is the reservation for 2008? If so it would not make any difference where you booked it, taxes went for everyone in the area, hence room rates went up.

If you did not book in 2007, there is some mixup and you have a legitimate complaint and need to get it straightened out unless it has to do with taxes.

FYI: for everyone, the fine print is not so fine, it is actually quite large and is on the back of your reservation.

When I booked my reservation on the website, I received a six page confirmation. In the pages it states:
"All rates are in U.S. dollars and are subject to change until package is paid in full. After packages is paid in full, rate is subject to change due to imposition of taxes or other charges of governmental authorities".
Always read the fine print....

Sorry, that is nothing new. As everyone else has said, Disney lets you book rooms for the coming year to hold the room. However, the amount per night is always adjusted to the rate for the new year when those prices are released.

Reguadless, people are just not going to go. I have many reasons why this will be my last trip ever to Disney and with every post like this I am more and more sure I am doing the right thing. When they take away the customer service they are no better than any other amusement park out there... and the others are cheaper/better in many respects.

Never thought I'd agree with the above. I used to generalize Disney People and Non, but I'm going to have to move myself to the Non category unless the customer service justifies the costs as it used to. I agree with Zooey72. Sorry

Just curious, how much of a price jump are we talking?

How did you book? When you made the reservation did they tell you that the rate was subject to change since rates were not announced yet?

Before you waste your breath on the rate increase at Disney, just click this link:

As for the increase you received, of course they will adjust your bill once the next years rates come out, if they didn't people would be booking 5 years in advance to avoid the rate increase. That would be like paying for a new car in 2007 but waiting a year and picking up a 2008 model at the '07 price.

Can you explain what specific customer service they took away in this specific situation? This is not a new policy.

I am sorry to hear that you are so discouraged. It is really hard for any of us to say your feelings are justified when you still have not answered the redundant question....was your vacation booked for 2007 or 2008?

By the way, if your reservation is for 2008, this has nothing to do with customer service....this is business and a standard in the indusrty. Universal would do the same.
