how can they change my cost?!

I have also booked room reservations for 2008 but was told that prices were going up and that I would receive a bill in the mail with the price difference.
My family is staying from June 7th - June 15th at the AKL.:cool1:
The deposit only went up just a few dollars.:confused3
Sorry to hear your diappointed with WDW.

Could be the OP booked a res over a 2008 holiday weekend too and got sticker shock. :confused3

I received an invoice for more deposit on a room booked in 07 for 08. The invoice came with a letter explaining that 08 room rates were not set at the time I booked in 07, which is also what the CM told me. Not happy about it, but I was expecting it. I owe an additional $61 for a CR MK view room during President's week.

How could you not realize that the rates for '08 would be higher than the rates for '07? Especially if you have been going to Disney World for as long as you say you have? They rase their rates every year! There has been lots of complaining about the new rate structure, but unless you are used to booking your whole stay for a Value Season rate, the increase is not really that horrible. Should I be able to book for 2010 now and pay only 2007 rates? How would that make sense? I am truly bafled at how upset you are.

Goodness! I am so sorry that you are overwrought by the increase in your room reservation. I have to admit that if I booked a room at ANY resort that advised me that the rate may increase, I guess I wouldn't have been shocked when I got the letter saying I owed more:confused3

Now if I booked a Holiday Inn for next weekend in Podunk, Idaho (no offense Idaho:goodvibes ) and I got there and the rate increased--heck yeah, I'd be up in arms. But the situation at WDW just isn't like that.

I think it's much ado about nothing. It's just business as usual. I agree with the car analogy. It just doesn't compute:confused:

Wait a minute, guys. She's talking about several months away - the examples of several years seem a little unfair to me :) . And, yes most of us know that rates were going up, but maybe she did not, and most of us also know that Disney is often inconsistent in explaining things - heck I could call 5times tonight and potentially get 5 different answers on certain issues. Last year a CM was angry with me when I was asking about the kid's cruise at POR - she told me not to believe everything I read on the internet :rotfl: . If it wasn't for studying these boards, the lack of accurate information would have affected several of my trips - including the need for Teppanyaki replacement ADR's for this Sept. So ... maybe a little sympathy and gentle explanations would be nice :hippie: .

Just an FYI, the OP stated in the linked thread, that they had been going almost every year since 1973 and several times a year since their kids were born. They are not a first time visitor. Apparently, they have reached the point where the price is more than they want to pay. Fair enough.

Good point, but it sounds like she really didn't know it was coming. Who knows for sure :confused3 If will be interesting to see how many people who are not happy with the changes will really choose other vacations. We are considering going elsewhere for our family vacation next year (definately due to the changes/increases), but good deals may lure us back.

I just posted in another thread that we are going to vacation somewhere else next year too. Cost is a consideration but we also want to experience other things. We'll be back I think but it will be a few years.

Just curious, how much of a price jump are we talking?

No kidding. The resorts went up $4.00 per night for mods and $10.00 per night for Deluxes, so i can't imagine it would be that much more.:confused3

It could be more, if she booked over a weekend, the rates went up $15-$25 per night, I think. Around that anyway. Or maybe she was used to starting her vacation in Value Season, but with each night being its own rate now, her cost went way up? :confused3

I booked our trip in March of this year for April of next year and when I called I was told that if there was a rate increase for 2008 I would owe the difference. Which I figured would be the policy, it just seems logical that if the rates increase for the next year you'll have to pay the difference.

But again, just because YOU were told doesn't mean everybody was :) . It is possible that the OP did not realize that this increase would happen. Before I was so internet savvy, I might have been naive enough to believe that if a corporation was ready to take my reservation (and deposit), then they were also ready to honor their quote ;) .

Can you explain what specific customer service they took away in this specific situation? This is not a new policy.

No, they did not "change" anything. It is the same sub par service that they have been using for years. If you buy a car, or anything else before the rates go up do they charge you for the price difference? Nope, just Disney.

But to recap:

1) The dining plan is being majorly scaled back, and than they insult us by taking $1 off.

2) They removed smoking rooms. While some of you like this, I do not and will not go back.

3) Some of the food/service is just plain bad. It was not like how it is now 10-15 years ago.

4) If you have people coming in at different times they will take away your meals. I don't care if others abused it, I did/do not and quite frankly it is not my problem. They made it my problem when they told me I would have to sacrafice for what others have done. If that isn't some of the worst customer service ever I don't know what is.

5) They have waited until 2 weeks before we leave to tell our magical gatherings group of 25 that we could not eat at Japan. Construction take too long? Ok, that I will accept. I REFUSE to accept that they could not hae told us about this sooner. People here knew last week and they had closed it longer. We should have known MONTHS before. Esp a group our size that is almost impossible to find any ADRs now.

also, I worked for them for 2 semsters in 91 and 93. I KNOW what is to be expected and what the standards were (and should still be) and it is just not there.

Just Disney? That's just not true. I have a room reserved for a week at a lakef ront resort next June. They have not released rates for 2008 but you can bet that that my rate will go up even though I reserved the room this year.

Bad example. Car companies don't allow you to purchase the new car models until the prices are set. Disney allows people to book into the next year with the understanding that the prices will go up.

Wow, from rising room rates to leather-clad fondling in just three pages. This is the best thread I've read in a long time!!

The words to the Mickey Mouse song have always been "because we like you" - I remember that clearly from my Mouseketeer days.

I hope you can find another vacation venue that suits your tastes - which seem to include a need to smoke and bash gays. And I hope they don't adjust their rates!!!!

I remembered that also and just looked it up to make sure (at 57 I can't always rely on my memory ) ;)

From this website:

http://www.fiftiesweb.com/annette.htm

Some immortal words...

Mickey Mouse Club! Mickey Mouse Club!

Who's the leader of the club
That's made for you and me?
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!

Hey, there! Hi, there! Ho, there!
You're as welcome as can be!
M--I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E

Mickey Mouse! Donald Duck!
Mickey Mouse! Donald Duck!
Forever let us hold our banners high!
High! High! High!

Come along and sing a song
And join the jamboree
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E

And, the ending...

(Softly)
Now's the time to say goodbye
To all our company
Through the years we'll all be friends
Wherever we may be
M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E
Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse
Forever let us hold our banner high
M-I-C - See ya real soon!
K-E-Y - Why? Because we like you!
M-O-U-S-E!!

hmm, that's interesting.

When I was a kid my mother played that song (along with a lot of others) and I distinctly remember them saying "love". Perhaps that is just the version I had, I stand corrected on that.

And I am not bashing gays. I am bashing the double standard Disney has because I know if I were to walk down Mainstreet with my hand up my GFs shirt something would be said, and I would be asked to leave if I didn't stop. That policy should apply to all people reguardless of sexuality. I saw some real shocking pictures of "gay days" where it seemed that Disney just looked the other way to be PC.

Totaly off topic, but I just watched a Disney thing a few days ago and one of the imagineers had a goatee and a wierd looking earring. When did they start allowing that? I had to look like beaver cleaver when I worked there.
