on one of our Magic cruises when I get the tickets and checked the room, the
DCL cruise book said it did not have the 4th bunk. Since we were 2 adults and 2 kids I immediately called DCL.
I was told: every room in that category has the 4th bunk. We only show 'some' in the literature because if we fill all those bunks we don't have enough lifeboats. Whaaaaaattttt?
Poorly worded but I understood what they were trying to say. The ship is certified to sail with XX passengers and if they fill EVERY ONE of those 4th bunks they could exceed that number. The booking system keeps track.
Sure enuf, the room HAD the pull down.

funny follow on to the story. On the cruise, the family and I received an invitation to be on the bridge departing Castaway. I struck up a conversation with another guy up there and said, I know what string I pulled to get up here, what's your angle? He said, "I'm a vice president of the cruise line, what's YOUR angle?" Captain USCG . . . and I went on to tell him my funny story ... handing him my card.
.... " We only show 'some' in the literature because if we fill all those bunks we don't have enough lifeboats" ......
He turned rather pale and began to stammer . . .
I said, don't worry I hope I know what she meant . . .
Oh YES ... YES. Turns out he was with a group of new phone people for an orientation trip. "I just decided we're having another training session tonight!"
true story . . .
