How can I contact 'Ohana?

On my upcoming trip to Disney, we have a planned reservation at 'Ohana. One adult in the party has had Bariatric (lap band) surgery and cannot eat more than a few bites without becoming full. This person has a medical card that they carry at all times proving this, allowing them to eat off the kids menu at many places;however, we've not been back to Disney since the surgery, so have never tried there.

The last time I asked on here if an adult could be charged a kids price, many said it could not be done, or that it was up to the server. I'd like to reach out to 'Ohana for a direct answer, so is there any way to contact them?

Thank you

I would google it but I don't know what kind of luck you will have. At Ohana they serve everything family style. Kids eat the same stuff as the adults unless you specifically ask for something (grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, etc.) So not sure that they would adjust the price for you.

Thanks, I realize they eat the same food, the price difference is just based on amount of food expected to be eaten.

I've tried to google an email or phone number, but the only thing I found was the standard phone number for dining reservations.

I gotcha. It would be frustrating to pay full price when you can't eat that much (prob hard to even get your "money's worth" for a kids price).

It would be incredibly frustrating. The person can't even eat a childs hamburger before getting full, much less a full family style buffet. They said they would be "okay" with paying the $20 child's price, but could not justify paying $43.

i know I'm probably going to get flamed for this and regret it, but I think Disney (and all restaurants) will and should charge for an adult price. The logic that they won't eat as much is flawed. There are many people who don't/can't eat as much for various reasons but still have to pay for their full meal whether they eat it or not.

I respect your opinion, but I have to disagree that the logic is flawed. There is a difference in not eating as much as you can and physically not being able to eat a lot. If the logic were flawed, then they should be charging adults and kids the same price, since you say it doesn't matter what they don't/can't eat.

Just for informational purposes, this comes up often on the board in regards to all you can eat and buffets, I have not heard of anyone having success being charged the children's price in that situation.

Not sure if you can contact directly. You may just have to ask when you get there. Not sure that they will honor your request since you are paying for not just food but the experience. I can't eat the meat at Ohana - it makes me sick. Same thing happens at Japanese steak houses. It's something they use to cook it in I think. However I would not expect a discounted price if I went there. I would just pay.

Agree with this. I've seen it once in a blue moon and it was for a child that very visibly could not eat solid food.

Totally agree with the other poster as far as pricing - one price meals are one price, regardless of consumption. If it's not worth it to someone for whatever reason there are plenty of other places.

OP - I'd contact special diets via email as the restaurant phone numbers are not published. That way you have their answer in writing. You could also call the dining line and ask to be transferred to the podium. They may decline, or may not honor the answer you get when you physically get there.

I wouldn't get high hopes about it, honestly. If Disney doesn't allow it for disabled children I find it doubtful they will for an adult. There are a lot of bariatric surgery patients in Disney. It'd be setting a pretty rough precedent.

my friend has a band and took her card with her to all of the buffets, she was always charged kids prices no question. I realise this isn't ohana but I cant imagine there would be a problem.

You might be able to reach Ohana by calling the Polynesian Resort. Just request to have your phone call transferred to Ohana. (407) 824-2000

Won't work. Regardless of any public number dialled it will go to the call centre. There are no direct numbers you can call.

Have the request put on the reservation and talk to the restaurant when you get there. However, from what I've seen in the past at least be prepared to be turned down.

Your odds are not good. I spend a lot of time on the DISabilities board and I have never heard of anyone having that card work at Disney.

And the thing is, people who have had gastric surgeries can go back to overeating after time goes by. But they would still have the card.

That is true for people that go that route; however, in this case the surgery was done with a lap band that is going to be in place permanently.

Anyway, I guess I will be prepared for the person to pay $50+ for a few bites of food.

Yep. That is the way flat fee restaurants work. If you guys aren't comfortable with the fee, you might want to choose a different restaurant. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with 'Ohana last time we went. Since then they have removed chicken as well. I would pick somewhere else.

I really enjoyed the food each time, and although I would miss the chicken, I guess the wings could suffice...I definitely don't go for the "experience." I don't really enjoy small children chasing coconuts inches away from my table.

I will consider finding a replacement, but it will be hard to find a suitable restaurant to replace my reservation (which is set for two weeks from now) that is in or not far from Magic Kingdom, and is worth giving up a 5:10 PM res. at 'Ohana.
