Ive just noticed that I will be looking for a studio from 10th October for 5 nights. I plan to book at the 7 month window day to day. Anywhere but SSR ( as I am going and already booked for 7 nights for the later part of the holiday)

My question is( as this is Columbus week) ..How difficult could it be? Also do you think I should book SSR anyway and change once I can get the new resort? I don't want to be left with nothing! What would be the chances of that? I don't want this year for OKW as I have that earmarked for a longer break in August next year but obviously would change if had to.

Thanks in advance as this is my first year and I am not sure what to expect when the 7 month window opens for my time.

If you don't care which resort, I would just wait and see what is available. Have a preference list of an order, and go from there. I think a lot of folks change their ressies at the 7 month mark, so it should not be a problem.

We're taking our 1st trip "home" to the Wilderness Lodge Columbus Day wk

According to some, there are "teacher union breaks" during the month of Oct from mid western states that cause a great deal of guests to travel to WDW during this time. You may want to take this into consideration while doing your trip planning. I personally have never seen or heard of any greater attendence during this time period due to school closings in the mid west but some say it is so.

Do not forget that starting this year, the Food and Wine festival at Epcot will start October 1, and run through the whole month. Couple this to the long weekend could increase travel at that time of the month.

Columbus weekend and the following week are busy because of school/teacher conferences. My friend has gone twice during that time and says she never will again.

I would think there would be availability at 7 months out, but it would fill out fast. I tried to get BCV at 6 months out for the end of Oct last year and was on the waitlist for 7 weeks.

We were there that week in 2002, and attendance seemed very low. We were told that the celebrated Monday might be crowded because of FLORIDA children who were out of school, but we did not notice.
