Having the "we need more points" bug REALLY BAD!

I think you just summarized UY for me. I have owned 8 years and bought the wrong UY. Back when I didn't understand, if I want to vacay in May, I need April. I have June & always end up paying cash for rare fall trips! Thanks you confirmed my April need!

April is definitely better for traveling in May. We told our guide we like going in May and she still assigned us a June UY. Thanks to the people on here though I went and rescinded within 10 days and switched it to an April when I bought my first contract.

I'm curious about how many of you have stuck with your one initial contract vs getting a second (or third)?? Did you stick with the same UY (we did). How many points is enough?? (Subjective, I know, but I'm curious about what other people's takes are.) Thanks!!!
I had one initial direct contract for 10 years, then I added on resale two more contracts different resorts, same use year. Still had the bug for a little more and added on another direct contract at a fourth resort. I'm at 560...I thought I might add on even more , but I feel I've reached an upper limit of what I want to pay on dues, and vacation at Disney. I prefer the same UY because I typically only want to do DVC vacations no more than once per year, and we normally combine contracts at 7 months to book our stays. I guess I would add on more points if DVC was our only vacation, but we want flexibility of time and money for some other things as well.

5 UY's on purpose? Could you elaborate?
Sure - 2 UY are Hilton Head only - I live in SC so HH is only 4 hrs away - those UYs are months apart so that if I need to cancel, I don’t have to worry about bank/borrow points. The other 3 are April UY for Spring, June for Fall and Oct for Christmas trips…in 15 yrs of owning - I’ve never lost a point.

My wife and I have six contacts all the same use year. Four direct contracts and two resale for a total of 722 points. Two contacts each at BWV, VB and BLT. The VB contracts we bought in 1997. The dues have always been high there but we love the resort and never regretted the purchase. We go to VB for a week every Memorial Day followed by a week at BWV. We’re taking our first BLT trip with our points in September.

$64/pp?? WHOA!
I'd guess that there are a load of original owners out there who paid pennies for their contracts back in the day. They come to put their contracts on the market and get told the price to use. Then sit bemused for months while their contract fails to sell (those are the ones to target - not the ones that have just come on). After a while someone like me comes along and offers far less than asked but far more than paid. It's a win-win all around.

Or perhaps they're just keen to offload to stop the dues and want to share the magic.

Hey everyone. LONG time lurker, but haven't posted much (and apparently I can't even get the cool pics in my signature until I post more so I thought I'd say what I've been thinking about DVC)...!

We got 300 points at OKW and absolutely love it (despite many people sort of dogging on OKW we just thought it was wonderful.) I can't wait until the boats are working again to DS as we remember riding boats from POFQ to DS and having a grand time years ago.

Well, you'd think that 300 points would suffice but NOPE; I find myself parusing the DVC resale sites almost daily and after maybe just a few weeks of "the bug", we've made an offer on AKV.

I'm crazy excited about it; we're in ROFR right now, so fingers crossed.

Yes, you never can have enough points!!!!

Boardwalk is amazing. DO IT!

This board is a bunch of enablers! :rotfl2: I kid (kinda) I may have not bought up to 1000 if it weren't for this board. But also if it weren't the boards I never would have bought period since I had no idea resale even existed and that I could negotiate!
Well our October RIV trip just turned into a RIV/BWV split stay, so we shall see!

ooohhhh nice! I think RIV is probably amazing and since it's new and shiny maybe that will ward off the BW addonits for you. I was coming from AKV to BWV, was like night and day difference in room style/newness.

Anyone who posts regularly on this board is obsessed with DVC and wants to talk about it all the time 🤣🤣
My Disney obsessed wife that had to have our Vow Renewal at the Wedding Pavillion along with all the Disney Wedding bells and whistles you could imagine this past November just called me a crackhead. I might be addicted to Disney, and DVC 🤪

My wife always asks me "Are you posting on that Disney website again where you all argue with each other about what might happen in the future?" 🤣🤣

As someone who has their Disney wedding coming up in a week, forget the vows buy the contract instead 😂

Kidding kidding..

Not really

No. Tell her it's the other site where that miserable old git keeps saying that OKW is the best resort, never buy a $15K discount card, don't eat the food and don't buy the tat!

Congrats! No, don't not hold back on the wedding. You will love it so much that you will have no choice but to buy more points when you get home to get back faster 😂

We were going to start out with 150 direct. Got off the phone with our guide and quickly decided that we need more points and would get a better deal if we bought more. Called her back in about 5 minutes and bought more. 😬

We now have 2775 points with 16 different direct/resale contracts and the same UY. Also planning on getting another contract next year and that "may" be the end.

Congrats!! It will be amazing! We kind of did something similar. We were going to have our wedding on the Disney Wish in 2022 (even sent out the invitations) but then we changed our minds, blamed the cancellation on Covid restrictions, and then took a 3 week Disney honeymoon for ourselves instead 🤣🤣

I told her we argue about a lot of other things as well 🤣🤣
