We are going to Disney in October and were planning to go the first week and visit the parks during the week. We do not plan to attend the halloween parties and I read that there are no other fireworks during the week so now I am considering the second week and going to the park on Columbus day for the longer hours & fireworks.

How crowded are the parks on Columbus Day? Gay Days are Oct 5-7 and Columbus Day is Oct 8th....will gay days effect the parks on Columbus Day? Are the fireworks worth putting up with the crowds? Do most people have this day off in Cali? Do a lot of APs come this day? I am considering this mainly for my 4yr old who loves fireworks and doesnt know Disney without them! TIA!!! :goodvibes

It's a mild day, not slow or busy.

Though be aware there certainly may be a Halloween Party on that day.

When we were there for Columbus Day in 2010, one thing I found interesting was that there was someone at the front desk of the GCH asking for a second room. The CM told them that the GCH was completely sold out, every room was booked solid until Wednesday (this was the Friday, I'd been going to the concierge for something and overheard the conversation). I want to say that she said they had no rooms available on property after the guest kept asking for more, but my memory is getting dimmer so that might not be correct.

The parks did not seem especially full though, more like usual weekend full. I think more you get a lot of extra out-of-towners that week since many neighboring states are taking a fall break that week.

I was there in 2010 for my birthday (which fell on the actual Monday holiday that year), and it was BUSY. In our opinion, at least. On our first park day, which I believe was Saturday (it's possible it was Sunday), as we entered DCA they made us get handstamps, despite having APs, because Disneyland had closed to capacity (not full capacity, but one of the levels that would have allowed those with handstamps back in) and they wanted to help us in case that happened that day.

It didn't get better until Monday afternoon once everyone started to go home, though it didn't help our LONG wait for our Cafe Orleans reservation that evening!
