Thinking of bringing my laptop, this way I can upload the pics each night instead of buying more memory for my camera. I want to lock it up when we are not there, but will it fit in the safe?

TIA

no, DH and I really don't think that any of the on-site rooms would allow the laptop to fit in the safe...they're roomy - if all you're putting in them would be your airline tickets, passports, money etc...but don't think they're deep enough to store a laptop.

If memory serves, our camcorder (a fairly large 6yr old one) wouldn't fit...

Sorry!! Maybe someone else has another option, though...

I've never seen a safe that big in any hotel. We usually lock it in our suitcase if we're concerned. They would have to break the lock to get it, a bit obvious. Normally, we just leave it out, a bit too trusting probably lol

oh that is good that they will.. I am staying at fort wilderness cabins, wondering what they will be, I think I may phone down just to be sure.

I phoned Fort Wilderness and they said that the safes will not fit a newer laptop, but they never have any issues of theft so she said it should be ok, what do you all think? is there a chance that it will be taken or am I just being scared for nothing....

TIA

Do you have a lock for it? I know they sell them - we have them at work. I would consider bringing mine, but would lock it up when away - maybe in an out-of-the-way place like in the closet to the closet rod??

Better safe than sorry I suppose. I wouldn't want this to ruin a trip that has been "under-construction" and looked forward to for so long. :umbrella:

I'd love to say that nothing is ever stolen at Disney resort hotels....but although its quite rare, there are thefts.
The previous post offers a pretty good alternative (if you' don't have a lock, they can be obtained quite cheap in places like Office Depot and such).
I would then find an "out of the way" place to hide it (closet or drawer). But,remember you'll have to clamp the cable lock around something secure.

My ds is thinking of bringing his new laptop with us for the same reason. We are staying at POP so hopefully it will fit. I will ask him about a lock for it. I had thought of asking the management to put it in the hotel safe at the front desk, but that is going to be a pain. Glad this topic came up as I didn't think about it.

As I mentioned in an earlier post,I recently read that the safes in POP are larger than the older hotels and are able to accept laptops.

In 2002 we stayed at All star Movies- the safe was way too small for a laptop
in 2003 we stayed at CBR- again safe was too small...both times we took a lap tops and on both trips....I, commando in the morning, to get to the parks; forgot to close & lock the safes and both times we came back to the rooms and every penny was accounted for. Again as suggested, we put the laptop in the drawer or in a locked suitcase. So I would say yes, it'll be safe in the WDW hotel.

BTW- in 2004 we stayed off-site and the safe was big enough for the laptop and there was NO WAY I wouldn't have locked it up when we left.(definetly felt safe at WDW) But we also had 3 laptops between the 5 of us.

In November I took my laptop and just left it in the drawer. I had my lock with me but never used it. I would do the same again.

If the safes do not fit the whole laptop, I presume that you could at least pop out your hard drive and put the hard drive in there. (Of course, if your laptop is stolen, the hard drive isn't going to be much use to you while at WDW. However, you would at least still have all your data for when you got a replacement. Also, if it is obvious that your laptop does not have its hard drive, it might serve as a theft deterent.)

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the front desk provide a safe for you if the one in the room does not fit what you want in it? They give you a tag for the item and you must present it when you want the item returned? We had to do this when we went overseas, so I don't know if Disney does it as well.
