How bad will it be with same-day only fastpasses?

Hello all,

My son is a Disney College Program member, and we're looking forward to visiting him, including using some complimentary passes. Though I don't quite have the details figured out yet, I'm expecting I'll have little if any opportunity to get fastpasses ahead of park arrival.

If we're there at rope drop, are we likely to be able to ride some of the main attractions we want in the first few hours without too much pain, or is that a pipe dream? I'm sure 7DMT will be gone, but should I assume ALL FP will be gone for things like Splash Mountain before "day of"?

My current hope is that I can get there at rope drop, hit 7DMT, Enchanted Tales, and perhaps Peter Pan or Pooh without FP and without too much pain, and then hopefully get Splash Mountain and a few of the other traditional headliners for later in the day from the kiosk FP system. Is that crazy?

For context, we're going on days rated as 4-6 on Undercover Tourists crowd rating, and only on days rated as "Favorable" or "Most Favorable" by easywdw.

Also, what makes more sense - head straight to things like 7DMT and then circle back to pick up a few fastpasses, or spend time at the kiosks first?

I think you should still be able to have a swell time. There should still be a lot of fp's available for all but a couple attractions As far as strategy, there are a lot of ways to play it, and I'll let others comment.

Will you be staying all day. If so I would save 7dmt, and get in line right before close, and try to use rd to hit some of the other mountains. But that's just me. I would probably suggest using an optimized touring plan based on what you want to get accomplished

Be sure to check the black out dates calendar to make sure you can go to the park you want on the days you are planning. Also, those tickets are park hoppers, so you can go to more than one park in a day if you want. I actually think you can get FP+ ahead of time with those tickets if they are loaded in to the cast members MDE. The ones they had last year worked that way. I know the system is different this year, so it could be different.

We usually found that there were decent fp day of left, maybe not ideal time, but it works.

Have your son check daily at about 2 weeks out until things become availble we'd usually book ours Sun/Mon for our Fri/Sat weekend and sometimes we'd get mine train! It's all about timing. Aside from that, go straight to mine train, then peter pan/pooh, do Enchaned tales much later in the day, past dinner time, its not worth doing first thing!
