How bad is the water?

Just how bad is the water in Florida? We live in California and drink water straight from the tap. I’ve never had a problem with tap water in hotels, etc. I hate the idea of wasting all that plastic by buying plastic bottles. We are exclusively water drinkers, so crystal light won’t work. Anyone stick to tap? How bad it is?

it will taste swampy, everyone from out of state can’t take the flavor, maybe a britta water bottle can help, I’m a Floridian and don’t/can’t taste the swamp, but still take a britta water bottle with me.

It’s filtered for drinking by Disney.

Many people think it’s fine. I think it’s vile. But then I think most CA water is vile. I liked it from the tap at my friends place in rocklin, but their water is a separate system than others. Anaheim water in particular is so gross. And a lot like Orlando’s IMO.

But again, many people think it’s fine.

And FYI waters like dasani and Aquafina are just filtered municipal water. Just like what you can get at Disney. So if you’re going bottled, get actual spring water like Zephyr Hills.

I can't stand the water at Disney World. Do the Brita water bottles help get rid of the taste?

I'm a Floridian born and raised (living in Georgia now), but I'm from northwest FL, which I think has decent tap water. Orlando water is pretty gross. The stuff that comes out of the fountains when you ask for water at the quick service locations is usually filtered, and is ok when cold, but once it warms up, it is not good. In the parks, stop in for ice water when you want it. For the room, I would buy bottled, even if it's the larger gallon bottles, so you aren't using as much plastic. There are cups in the rooms. We tend to start each day with a fresh bottle of spring water and then refill it with cold ice water from the quick service locations as needed and drink it while it's at least somewhat cool.

The water isn't very cold anyways. If you want water then just go up to a quick service location and get a cup of water there. It's free, filtered, and comes with ice.

Yes! We took Brita water bottles with us on our last trip. We would ask for cups of ice water and fill them. The gross Florida taste was immediately taken away. They are a now a MUST pack whenever we go to Disney!

We're Canadians and haven't found anything wrong with the tap water at Disney World. We are almost exclusively water drinkers as well (aside from an occasional cocktail or special drink with dinner). We bring camelbak pouches that we fill with ice and tap water at the hotel in the morning, and refill with cups of free ice water from QS locations if necessary (usually just pouring left over water we didn't drink from our meal). We never found the water to taste foul or gross or sulfury. Except for a water fountain in (I think) adventureland at the MK, where the water was not cold and tasted like pipes.

You are flying to Orlando, yes? I've read that to offset the greenhouse gas emission for one passenger on a coast-to-coast flight you'd have to recycle about 30,000 bottles of water. So in terms of the environmental impact of your trip, the plastic bottles you could buy are - pardon the pun - a mere drop in the bucket.

Brita filters definitely help. But we just buy bottled water from a grocery delivery service.

We never use bottles of water at DW. We almost exclusively drink water from the food court or ask for cups of water at counter service locations. Occasionally I'll drink tap water from our hotel room. It all tastes fine to me. :)

It’s bad....and I’m not picky. The filtered water from the quick service places is much much better!

I grew up in Florida, I know it tastes different, but when I need water, I don't really care about the taste, its more of a being not thirsty and staying alive thing.....I drink from the fountains all the time, its because I am thirsty, not because I am looking for something tasty to drink.....but the ice helps with the counter service places....

The tap water is terrible, but you can get free, filtered water from any counter service location that tastes fine - no need to buy bottled water. Most (but not all) of the water fountains are filtered as well.

It depends where your drinking it. Some places it tastes fine, other places you can really taste the sulfur. Same with ice cubes, it varies.

This is really going to depend on you and your tastes. My boyfriend can drink it just fine - no issues. I can't stand it - even taking a shower I think it smells horrible! I can (and do) drink straight from the tap most places in the US - but not Orlando.

There are a few table service places that filter it in some way that makes it fine (but not many!) - but every quick service place at Disney - and the faucet in my resort room and the drinking fountains - it's all the same foul stuff. Yes - ice cold it is slightly less awful. I can even tell the difference between bottled water and water from the faucet when I make coffee in my room.

I don't like the plastic waste or the cost of buying all my drinking water - but its a cost I've just decided I have to add into my budget for these trips.

I find it's not that great, but it is drinkable. If you get the ice water from any food locations is it filtered, but the water fountains aren't that bad either.

It's much better than Anaheim water at Disneyland, which you can smell when you turn on a faucet. Do not drink that stuff unfiltered!

Yes, I'm glad I'm not at alone. I can smell it in my hair after taking a shower! Funny enough, I haven't noticed this same problem over at Universal but maybe by then I'm more used to it as our stays there are at the end of the trip. The last few times I've avoided buying water bottles because of what you said. But after fiddling with the brita bottles and such I'll probably just go back to buying a case of water online and having it delivered to the resort. I grew up drinking some sketchy water but Orlando really is a lot worse than that.
