How bad is the Sci Fi?

We really like Sci Fi. Sometimes the food is okay, sometimes good, but the atmosphere has always been great and a lot of fun. In May we had a really fun waitress who gave the kids parking tickets--they loved it. DS had the burger and enjoyed it. DH and I split a caesar salad and reuben and both were quite good. My younger two enjoyed the kids meals. I would say to try it if you have never been there.

We didn't care for the food at all. The atmosphere was interesting at best but the food was yucky. :confused3

I have just made our dinner AR at Sci Fi...It seems that the recommendation is to stick to the lunch foods...but, do they have the lunch menu available at dinner time? Thanks

Less than 90 days now!!!!

We went in 03 and enjoyed it. We had hamburgers and shakes at lunch like most eveyone. My DH enjoyed it so much that for our surprise trip in 06 for my SIL and niece that he said he was a must. I think he likes the atmosphere more than anything else.

My only complaint about the Sci-Fi is the difficulty of getting an early lunch reservation there! If you call to make an AR 90 days out, the earliest time you're offered is noon, despite the fact the restaurant opens at 11.

Yes, one can keep calling back as you get closer to arrival to see if earlier seatings have become available, but from what I've read, people's batting averages on that are poor. One explanation I've been offered for this is that Disney supposedly uses the MGM sit-downs for a lot of "groups,' and that they get seating priority, so the reservation windows for the "general public" :confused3 are consequently limited.

We've only been there for lunch, but we all really enjoyed it. I'm going to try to fit it in again on our next trip!

ANother who agrees lunch is much better there than dinner.
But I still would choose 50's over Sci-Fi, lunch or dinner.

I also had a FANTASTIC drink. It's called "Space Monkey." It's a chocolate shake with Malibu coconut rum, and banana liqueur. YUM!:teeth:

Oh my, that sounds to die for!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I could go sometime and get just that for my lunch LOL.

Yep. We had burgers for dinner in May. They're not on the dinner menu so you have to ask and they'll bring 'em (at least they did for us). pirate:

I can't get a table for 8 at Hollywood and Vine, and dh doesn't really like either italian food or the idea of the "50's Prime Time" interactive experience.

Is the food that bad? :earseek:
IMO, the food is average. The atmosphere certainly makes up for it.

BTW -- the shakes are to die for!

It was the first time trying out Sci-Fi for us (DH, myself and 4 1/2 yr old DS). It was the perfect place for us. Like someone else mention it gives the parents a nice peaceful lunch. My DS sat in the front and we sat in the back. My DS enjoyed the setting very much. We went in April so we didn't have the heat wave of FL but I bet it would be a great place to eat in the middle of summer. It is cool and dark to get away from the hot sun. We will be returning to Sci-Fi on our next trip.

POP 4/22-4/30 2005 A GREAT TRIP :flower:

Anyone ever had a problem going in in the afternoon just for shakes and desserts without a ADR? Sure wish I could get that Space Monkey to go LOL.

It's my choice of restaurant at MGM and we've eaten at all of them. Great atmosphere and the food is good. Yummy drinks and desserts!!!

Ate there June 2004 and loved the food and didn't even get a shake! We showed up right at 11 and got right in with no PS.

Even ordinary regular turkey sandwich was bad! Last time we went was Sept. 2004. Also note, I thought my DDs would love the atmosphere by DD3 at the time was scared because you sit in the dark.

One thing you might want to check also is the seating arrangements. I'm not sure how many people can be seated at one car/table at SciFi. Your group may have to sit at two separate tables. Check before you decide to eat there.

sci fi dine in is our favorite sit down restaurant in mgm (it has great, fun ambiance) & we have always had good food there at lunchtime. we normally head to the boardwalk area for dinner at one of the resort restaurants or hop to epcot for dinner from mgm.

I went last August. I had the barbecued chicken sandwich (coca cola barbecue sauce) and dbf had salmon with rice pilaf. We both loved ours though I would have preferred a fresher, softer bun. The barbecue sauce was unusual tasting and very sweet, but I liked it. We also shared two lime green beverages, similar to a midori sour but with an alien themed name, can't remember it though. They were the highlight! The glow in the dark ice cubes were a nice touch. The best part for me, though, was how childlike my dbf was. I loved seeing him so happy! :lovestruc He's a sci fi buff and watching the old movies and laughing at the old special effects was a lot of fun for him. He loved sitting in the cars and everything. I can assume most children would agree with him! :earboy2:
Try it! People have widely varying preferences and if you don't like it, you know for next time.

We have been there several times. Standard to good food. We love the atmosphere!
