How bad is Mission Space?

I had a friend say Misssion Space should be called Mission Vomit - I do not want to be feeling sick the rest of my vacation so I am afraid to go on it. I am the kind of person who can really ride anything but I am still very unsure!?!

Anyone have any comments on their feeling on the ride??

Thanks

If you take a look at my tag, the it that's being referred to is Mission: Space. I don't get motion sick, never have. Just keep your eyes open and look straight ahead and you should be fine. I was slightly dizzy coming off the first time but no worse than getting up too quickly after laying down--just sort of a head rush feeling.

I haven't ridden Mission Space, yet (Yeah only 3 more days!!) but I have heard that if you stare straight ahead at the screen in front of you and not look around it helps!

HTH and can't wait to have my own Mission Space exprience!

Korey

P.S. DH and I also plan on eating AFTER we ride mission space in the morning!

We love the ride, especially my DS 7 who has riden it several times. If you can ride most anything, and the teacups or a spinning ride doesn't get you sick you will be just fine. The important thing to remember is to not close your eyes, look straight ahead and back, and relax. You are in an enclosed dark space, which scares some people, but I am you will do just fine. It is an awesome ride, especially the take off! Ride it and have a great time!

I was really nervous about going on Mission Space back in April. Not because I thought I would be scared, just because of the nausea thing. I have always been a lover of thrill rides however when I had my last child 2 years ago I started getting motion sickness. That being said, I decided to take Dramamine about an hour before the ride and I was fine. I was still nervous getting in there but I followed the directions and kept my eyes on the screen. I do think that everyone should at least try it out because it is REALLY COOL!!!!! I would never go on it without the Dramamine and once a trip is enough for me. I am really glad I did it. Oh- and my husband went on it with and without the Dramamine and he did feel nauseous without it. Good luck!

I rode it last December and it's great. The first time I was queasy after riding it, but I was curious and did not always look forward.

I rode it a second time after sitting for about 10 minutes and was fine.

Keep your mind occupied on it by playing with ALL of the buttons and switches and you should not have any problems.

Giong back in December with the whole family, won't miss MS.

Just returned from WDW and rode MS twice! I almost chickened out for fear of feeling ill. I am so glad I tried it anyway. Personally, I don't care for spinning rides (like tea cups) too much. YOu can not tell you are spinning on Mission Space. The first time I felt no ill effects.

The second time I rode, the screen was a little blurry and I felt a little disoriented getting off. After sitting and taking a short 5 minute break or so it went away and did not ruin the day.

Neither time did we ride with a full stomach...no need to tempt fate, right? Must add that the rest of my family had no problems at all (including my 5 yr.old daredevil son). Good luck!

My DH, who is does not like roller coasters or TOT because of the feeling you get in your stomach during the DROP, said when exiting MS "Is that it?"

There are no drops or spinning (like the teacups spinning). The ride uses spinning to achieve a different kind of sensation for the riders.

You know how you feel when an airplane takes off? You feel like you're being pressed into your seat by the thrust forward.... Multiply that by 20 and you'll be close to the feeling you get on MS.

We love it and rode it twice. I'll ride it again next time and every time. It really is something else.

I rode it twice this June. I do not get motion sick, but I did get a little disoriented at the beginning of the ride and during the slingshot around the moon. I had a little disorientation for a few minutes after we got off, too.

I did not get nauseous or anything- just a little disoriented. My youngest son, who does get motion sick, rode it twice with his Sea Bands on and did fine. I would give it a try if you don't get motion sick, it is really a fantastic ride.

Blessings.

I think it's gotten a bit blown out of proportion, personally. It's really not bad... I think a few people, who already have issues with similar sensations, have had problems. For the normal person, it's not going to make you sick.

I never eat something huge before riding any thrill ride, so we did this before our reservation for PSB. I've enjoyed it both times I went on it. Key is to RELAX, sit back, and don't look around or close your eyes. Its' far from scary, you don't realize you're spinning at all, but just a very cool sensation.

Give it a shot!

OK, I just have to say that I have been on every rollercoaster possible. I love the tea cups, tower or terror, you name it. I have never felt sick on a ride. Mission Space did me in. I went on expecting to have a great time. I followed all the rules, don't close your eyes, look straight ahead, etc. I thought I was going to lose it. I lost all color and felt faint. I did not get sick, just felt sick to my stomach for hours. It took about 4 hours before I felt normal. I will not ride again. For some reason, my body just can't take it. My husband thought it was hysterical so I did add a little comic relief. He is a pilot and did worse in flight training so it didn't even phase him. I just recently went to another amusement park and was a little nervous about getting on a roller coaster. I thought I had lost my ride "mo jo". But, didn't have a problem. Just Mission Space. So you may think you will get sick and love it or you may be like be and not expect a problem and be really surprised. I say take the chance and ride. I am glad I at least did it once.

In contrast, you "spin me" and I get sick. Put me on the "tea cups" and I'm done for the today... find me a bed, see you in the morning. However, I did just fine on MS. No problems whatsoever. Go figure! I rode it three times with no ill effects.

It was rather amusing to see a janitorial CM with a 5 gallon bucket full of cleaning supplies waiting "in the wings" as we exited the first time. On the 3rd time we exited my older two kids saw a MS CM carrying a "used" air sick bag between her thumb and index finger extended out and moving swiftly towards the nearest trash can.

You should be fine as long as you do not move your head during the ride. Pick a spot on the screen and focus on it and you should be okay unless you get serious SERIOUS motion sickness.

The first time I went on it, mid ride, I turned to DBF to say something and WOW was I ill afterwards. The next 8 times, I did what DBF suggested and picked one spot and stared and was just fine.

I love roller coasters and I can ride the Tea Cups with the kids if asked. I think if the screen hadn't been blurry for me, I'd have been fine. I'm glad I rode it, it's an awesome ride. I remember thinking after lift-off, "Oh, good, I'm going to be fine." I never thought I was going to vomit, just felt a little dizzy after I got off. It took about two hours for my stomach to feel back to normal.

My BIL was upset with my sister for telling our parents just to skip MS. But we know them well. You don't tell people who won't ride BTMR and SM (and are trying to decide whether they want to "risk" going on Splash) to try MS. :p I'm planning to take them into the exit area where they do the "training." I think they'll really enjoy that.

It was the single most sickening experience of my life. I was utterly screwed up for 3 hours. I couldn't even make it out of the building. My mother's boyfriend rode it twice in a row and had to spend the night in the hospital.

I did not like the way this ride made me feel. I felt totally YUCKY for about an hour after. This has been the only ride at WDW or DL to make me feel this way. But...It is an awesome ride and would go on it again but maybe some Dramamine would do me good.

Re the Vomit Comet: if you have had vertigo or have a inner ear pblm or get car or sea sick, stay off this ride. it is basicly a high speed merry go round. It will make you sick if you can't handle this type of movement. They should post a sign at the front explaining to people exactly how it works, and let them make up your own mind. I was sick for 2 hours and yet my DS 11 was fine. ohh and if you suffer from clostraphobia steer clear of it also........

They do explain it before you get on the ride and I heard many, many warnings about if you have trouble with spinning rides, clausterphobia, etc... to reconsider riding.

How bad is it? How GREAT is it! We rode it last summer at a soft opening and the first time was amazing, not knowing what to expect. In Febuary I was a little nervous for some reason - probably after reading so many posts and time making the memory somewhat distorted, but it was tamer than I expected. I love it and can't wait to get back on!

I have read most of the replies, and hate to be the Odd man out but....
I got very sick from MS. I kept my head back and eyes straight. Still got sick. It blew the rest of my afternoon.
I am not saying do not go on, I am saying maybe save for the end of the day if you are concerned.
BTW my DS(8yo) did fine on the ride but got sick in the middle f night because he had a dream about it.
