How bad is Mission Space?

I think the worst thing about MS is you can't really predict how you are going to do on it because each person's experience is different. Out of our family of 4, DS16, DD14 and I did just fine. DH said he couldn't wait for it to be over and won't ride it again. I told him before the ride that the feeling was simulated with the ride spinning. He can't stand spinning rides and maybe I shouldn't have told him. He didn't have any prolonged sickness afterward or anything, just didn't like it.

As for just looking straight ahead, DS was pushing the buttons on my console the first time we rode it because I was so nervous I looked straight ahead and didn't move my eyes from the screen at all! Even looking over towards my console and back to his he didn't get sick.

Best of luck! I hope you give it a try and find it enjoyable. I went on it first with DS to try it out before DD & DH. I told them two things - you can't even tell you are spinning and if the G-forces are bothering you realize it only lasts like 10-15 seconds at the most and I think it happens twice. Good luck!

I rode it once and probably wont again BUT I was glad that I tried it once. I'm prone to motion sickness and didnt get sick at all but did feel "out of sorts" for a few hours afterwards. Hard to explain but more of a dizziness than a nauseous.

Try it once - at the end of the day!

Rode it during Christmas and if you follow the instructions given we never had a problem...DH is very easily motion sick and he rode it without a problem...

Entire family was on MS on Tuesday. I love thrill rides and was extremely excited to try it out. While in line I had some serious doubts about getting on. The warnings made me second guess getting on and finding the "bags" in front of the seats were even more concerning.

I think most of the problems when the ride first started was because they did not warn people to keep their eyes open and head motionless - even if you feel sick. Even when I was on the ride I felt the urge to close my eyes (the eyes became blurry and it was hard to look at the screen). Had a 'funny' feeling for about 2 hours after the ride. Not sure how to explain it. No one in the group got sick though. Was a great experience, felt just like blasting off!

I never made it on the ride. I stood in line with my family (DH, DD12, DD9). All the warnings they give you on the TVs while you are in the queue were too much for me. They kept showing people spinning around and around and saying something like if you do not care for spinning you shouldn't ride this. By the time we were ready to get into the ride vehicle and the CM said, this is your last chance to exit, I was nauseous and had broken into a cold sweat!! I told the family bye and hi-tailed it out of there!!!!

During each blastoff I had a very strong urge to close my eyes, too, but I fought it. I was only dizzy the first time and had no ill effects whatsoever the 3 subsequent times.

As anyone can see from all the posts, it's hard to know how it will affect you. I've done it several times and had no problem. I even video taped it one time.

I think it's one of those rides you have to try, and then see how it affects you. The one thing to do is follow the directions, pay attention what the CM's are saying!:earseek:

I'm glad that I rode it once. I doubt I will ever ride again.

I didn't mind the takeoff portion, it was the asteroid sequence which really did me in. I was praying that it would end when we landed on Mars - I would have been truly sick and close to a panic attack if we had to travel back to Earth!

I followed all of the instructions and still felt off for an hour or two after the ride. We went on Spaceship Earth immediately after and it was heavenly to close my eyes and rest my head there.

I'm also glad that I can say that I've riden it, but I'm not sure I would again! It is the coolest ride I've ever been on - the feeling is just awesome - but I was also a little dizzy and nauseas for an hour or so afterwards. Definitely do not eat right before going on it, but don't go on an empty stomach either. Also, the ride is over so fast that - for me - at right about the time I was starting to feel uncomfortable, it was over!

If you're really worried about, just do it last at the end of the night at Epcot so if you do get sick - you're just headed back to the hotel!

Have fun!

I get to ride all of the questionable rides first. I have only felt sick after one ride and that was over 10 years ago. My husband on the other hand gets sick on all spinning rides and we found out at Disney he also gets sick on motion simulator rides. He really wanted to try MS but was worried about getting ill, so I rode the ride first. It is a totally different sensation than any other ride and it can be very intense. I felt fine after riding it and explained a little of it to my DH. He was ready to try it and our 6-year-old DS went with him. DS LOVED it and DH thought that it was fun but was happy that it ended when it did. He said that a few more minutes of the ride and he probably would have been ill.

Unfortunately we rode Body Wars right after MS and DH was green by time the ride stopped. He said that because the ride didn't move totally in sync with the screen it made him very ill. We took about a twenty-minute break from any rides and then went on Spaceship Earth. My DH said that he felt a little off the rest of the day, but if we wouldn't have rode Body Wars he would have been fine.

Unfortunately, you won't know how MS affects you until you ride. Other riders experiences are irrevelent, since it doesn't guarantee you will feel the same way. And if you read through the other postings, following the suggested ride instructions ( don't look around, etc ) isn't always a formula for success either. I rode once and felt relatively fine, but the other 3 people in my party felt "weird" for a few hours afterwards. I've decided any ride that requires medicine beforehand and strict adherence to ride protocol probably isn't something I want to do again, since I definitely don't want to spend a few hours of my vacation feeling "weird", or worse downright sick. But you may think differently.

Spinning rides don't always agree with me, but I had no problem with MS. Except that every time my ship landed on Mars, we almost fell into a canyon when the ground gave way underneath us;) !

The scariest part for me was all the warnings before getting on the ride!

Well - I was the original poster for this thread because I was scared to death of MS. Now I am back and rode it a total of 4 times!! My DH and I absolutely loved it. I have to admit I chickened out the first time, my husband rode it and loved it so he convinced me to go on the next time! It is great - honestly I have no idea why they give so many warnings before hand. They really work you up more than neccessary. We had no ill effects AT ALL!

Thanks to all that responded. I wasn't going to do it but now I am so glad I did. It was one of our favorite rides of the trip.

Now it is back to the real world! Starting to have a little Disney withdrawl but it is good to be home!:wave2:
