The original JIT was one of my favorite EPCOT rides....not on the top of my list but it was up there....I simply loved the "moving theater" part of the ride when the blimp comes out. You seemed to be not moving but you were!!! I Loved that. Did they remove that part of the show completely so it is just a continous scene by scene ride or did they keep the moving theater and just change the scene? How bad is the new rendition in comparison to the original?

TIA

I never saw the original.
The current version is dull. We rode it once. And I did it again to give it another chance. It was a nice relaxing ride to rest weary feet for a short time. ;)

I try not to compare it to the other versions. It's just a nice fun relaxing ride that brings a smile to your face with some of the scenes.

Any1 out there have an answer to the "moving theater" part of the ride?? I guess I'll need to hear from someone that has taken a ride on the original. It's good to hear something other than "awful" though...When I was at WDW in 2001, I was ssd to see it closed for re-hab and was excited at the new prospect as, again, it has always been one of the highlight attractions.

There have been lines out the door the last 3 times I went over to Epcot to ride it.

Moving theater / feeling like you are not moving part of the ride??? Is it completely gone now?? Any1?? Bueller?? TIA guys and thanks for the comments so far...I'm looking forward to it :)

I've ridden the ride both before and after...I think the moving theater part is gone...actually I'm pretty sure of it. I loved the scene with the blimp...that was my favorite part. Now it seems more just like a typical dark ride...you cycle through each little room. It's kind of a sad ride when you compare it to the old one (not as much whimsical charm, in my opinion), but it does have a few good moments. I'd say ride it...at least you get to see Figment!

Thanks Erin...I'm kinda upset about the blimp being gone...that was the best...I could never understand how the heck we were stopped there watching that scene but were really still moving..genius design. Oh well, at least it will be something new to look forward to and I'm glad they kept a dark ride...I just hate the idea of them taking out dark rides and putting in thrill rides. The awesome DARK RIDES make Disney unique!!

What I liked about the "figment" ride, was that the little kids enjoyed it and so did the adults in our group. I'm sorry, I never saw the original, so I can't answer your question, but there is no "movie theater" part in this one. I love the message of this ride. I think its great!!

The blimp part is gone. The ride is much shorter than the original, but it's whimsical and we all like it. I'm sorry they got rid of the original one, but at at least current version is much better than the middle one -- it was bad.

I love The Unofficial Guide, but I have to give it some of the blame for the original being gone. For years, it described "Imagination" as one of the most boring things at WDW. We all loved it, and I just couldn't understand that rating. I'm sure it contributed to shorter lines and a perception that the ride needed to be fixed.

No "moving theater" part on the current version. I guess this ride belongs to the next generation. My DS5 absolutely LOVES this ride and Figment and could ride it all day long. The only thing he knows about the old ride are the pictures and words to the song that he has found on the Internet. For him, this is the ride and it's great for all of us to watch him get so excited about it. I have still kept the secret that he will get to meet the "real" Figment on our next trip in June. He is going to flip!

I am a big fan of the old ride, but this one is good, too. At least they put figment back in it, the "middle" one was bad! I have to take tons of pics for my 24 year old sister, she just loves Figment!!

Yeah that part of the original ride is history. It is no longer a moving theatre.

Yeah, i completely agree with "tifandjim", i really loved the first version of the ride. A combination of quality and nostalgia make it one of my favorite Disney rides ever.

If i recall correctly, the second version didnt even have Figment for other then just one second. And the ride itself wasnt exactly inspiring to me.

This present version is a lot of fun. And not only cause its an improvement over the previous one, but i think this current one stands on its own merits. Figment is around a lot, his songs are cute and deliver the "imagination" message, and i like the sensory effects in the ride. Last few times i went to Disney, i went on this ride a lot.

I also really enjoy the Imagination "Lab" after the ride with all the picture making, editing, etc :)

The new one is alright in my opinion, BUT I am also comparing it to the original. There are some odd/neat things in this new one that were not in the original, and could have been, but the original was seriously about 500X's better than the ride now. Is the ride awful now? No. My friend was a FT CM at Disney 2 years ago (ran the Figment ride) and apparently Disney is (at the time and possibly still now) considering re-doing it yet again because the majority of people who spoke to them said the re-do in effect butchered the concept of Figment. My husband has only seen the new ride though and loves it. :) He thought I was batty when I saw it for the first time and was going "NOOOOOOO!!!!!" :rotfl2:

I loved the original also. It's hard to compare the new JIYI to JII because the original was soooo good. But, the revamped new version is better than their first stab at it. At least they put some Figment & One Little Spark back in.
I have to say, they totally butchered the Imagination Playground after the ride. I miss the Stepping Tones & that Light Tunnel......
