How bad is California Screamin'?

I am not a fan of the usual roller coasters, but most of Disney's I can handle. I haven't been to DL for 10 years and just visited WDW for the first time in 10 years. At WDW I rode Splash, Space, BTMRR, Everest, and the RockNRoller Coaster. With the exception of Splash which I just liked, I LOVE the others.

Now I see the YouTube vids of California Screamin' and it looks a lot like RNR at WDW except in the daylight which may be the factor that does me in. That and the huge drops (Splash is 52'' and this one is suposedly 107'' so I am more than a little scared. BTW, I loved the launch on RNR!

Just how bad is it?

I think the launch for RnRC is much stronger than CS's.

IMO if you can handle RnRC, then you'll be fine on Calif. Screamin'.

The launch on RnRC is more powerful than California Screamin so if you like RnRC California Screamin is no problem. RnRC goes from 0 - 55mph in 4 secs where as RnRC goes from 0 - 57mph in 2.8 secs. I loved California Screamin, especially in the dark!!

Tis nothing, the ride is very smooth and doesnt make me feel scared for one second (I do not like big coasters). I *loved* it!

Reading your post, anonymousegirl, it sounds like you are more afraid of the height of Screamin' -- not the launch (which you say you loved on RnRC).

Although the ride itself is similar to RnRC, the biggest drop is a bit more than Everest's 80 feet. How did you do on that?

I personally love the view from up above -- it's even better at night -- although it really flies by quickly. You can also lessen the visual impact of the drop by sitting further back in the train. Then you're able to focus more on the cars in front of you rather than the height of the drop. (The ride is actually better in the last cars anyway, imo.)

P.S. If you loved Space at WDW, do not miss the version at DL. It is light years' better.

I think the launch on CS is the scariest part of that ride so if you liked the launch on RnRC you should be good. IMO, the drop on Splash is much scarier than anything on CS but maybe that's just me. Oh and if it's the daylight that you're concerned about, just ride it at night. Problem solved.

The whole family thought that this was one of the smoothest steel coasters we have ridden. You'll enjoy it.

Glad I read through these. In the past 5 years I haven't had a chance to ride it because I have either been pregnant or had an infant. Eventhough DD will only be 10ish months I think my sis and I will take time away and go on it! DH is too chicken even though I know he would love the thrill. You guys talked it up enough for me to do it!

I didn't have a problem on Everest, so with all your great advice I am eagerly awaiting my opportunity to ride CS. I hope to go down for a couple days in November. Thanks everyone

Maybe someday I'll get up the nerve to try CA Screamin...the look of the drop keeps me from trying it every time. My family loves it!

I was the same way about the drop part, but it doesn't feel as bad as it looks. CS is super fun, give it a try! I love the loop, upside down part the best...haha!

That's exactly what my 7 yr old niece tells me...she's the same one that made me take her on Everest when she was 6. I think my eyes were closed for most of the ride.

If you're afraid of heights...I recommend sitting on the right side (so that whoever you're with is sitting to your left.) If you're on the right, you are on the side with the scream tube thing for the biggest drop...

As long as you don't look to your left, it's not so bad.

Oh, and don't sit in row one if you don't like heights.

& fwiw, Screamin is a GREAT ride to employ the single rider line. Also, King Triton's Carousel is right next to it, so non Screamin' riders have something to do while Screamin' riders enjoy the coaster.

My 6 year old DD and 10 year old DD love it. My mom figured since my 6 year old did it easily, she no longer had an excuse to not ride it to stay with a kid and enjoyed it. Though perhaps not as much as the kids.

If you rode rnr and were fine you shouldn't worry. Although it might seem more intimidating because you can see the track it really isn't bad at all. It is quite fun and like other said...do not sit in front and just try to relax and enjoy it. Once you ride it you will love it and be back for more!
