How bad is August?

Just found out we have to reschedule our May trip.
We are considering rescheduling for our daughters 7th birthday the week of Aug 20th. Can anyone share with me how bad the heat/humidity really is. Should we expect daily rain? We were there the last week of Sept into October last year and found it quite manageable.

Feeling pretty disappointed right now and I really need to come up with a new plan! My only consolation is that Rivers of Light should finally (right, Loungers!?!) be up and running by then.

I went 2 years ago in the beginning of Aug. It was HOT and humid... Just make sure you drink lots of water and enjoy the AC which is blasting in every shop. It only rained once for a few mins during one of our days, it might be more later in Aug. On the plus side enjoying the water parks on a hot day is a nice break.

We have been in August multiple times, always enjoyed it. Yes it's hot, yes it's humid, and yes to daily rain, although it's usually very short and feels great on a hot August day.
Perfect for swimming at the resorts. The biggest difference that we notice from when we have been in June is that it unfortunately does not cool off at night as much, still feels hot even though the sun goes down!
Drink lots of water, bring a floppy hat and have fun!

Im curious too as we are thinking last week of August next year. We figure it'll be less crowded than summer, and the busy (albeit cooler) school breaks are the only other times we could go. What's the best times to be out of the major heat of the day? Between about 1 and 4?

Yes the very end of August is less crowded. We were there the last 2 weeks in August last summer and the second week we were there we experienced significantly less wait times.
We rarely are in the parks from lunch to dinner because of the heat and because that's when my wife and daughter LOVE the pools at the resort. Honestly the heat really picks up by 11am and doesn't change much until the sun goes down. Even then it does not feel as cool as it should. I have sweated through many Wishes fireworks shows!
Never, Ever eat outdoors in August. We really wanted to eat at Casey's a couple summers ago and there were no seats inside. We got a table under an umbrella, temp was 98 or so with a feel like temp of 105. When we finished lunch we did not feel well at all. Always look for a restaurant indoors with air conditioning!

Go out as early as possible in the morning -- rope drop. Then head back to room around 2 p.m. to cool off, nap and use the pool. Around 4 p.m. large thunderstorms may roll through. Eat dinner and relax in room during the storms. Then, around 7 p.m. or so they should be finished. Head back to parks till they close.

Some days you may not get thunderstorms, or they may be hitting one area of Disney but not another. Check the radar! The most relaxing plan would be no parks and resting from around 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Also, some days the storms will linger longer that 7 p.m. Other days there may be no storms. Just be ready to be flexible. One positive is that the storms clear out the crowds. Try to take advantage.

August gets a bad rap! We can only go in August. If you do it right, it's fine. Yes it's hot and humid but the pool is good in the afternoon for breaks to chill and cool off! It doesn't rain every day, but when it does it is usually quick and done. We have actually become very fond of August lol much less crowds!! It's so manageable.

We went last August and it was bad at all. Actually booked again for this August. As long as you go in knowing it's hot, there will be showers and you'll need to take it a little slower you'll be fine!

August is hot hot hot. And the daily storms are usually of the thunder and lightning variety so plan on taking cover each day. The length of the storm varies too, sometimes quick, but sometimes not. The pools also often close daily when the storms roll in due to the lightning threat so sometimes it's hard to fit swimming in when you would like to. Even when the rain stops, if there is lightning within a certain radius, the pools stay closed. It's still do-able :) but just be ready to get less done than you can get done during the less stormy season. Definitely get out for rope drop! :)

We are going the first week of August. I have been before but going with 4 others that have never been to Disney. I have dinner reservations each night from 4:30 to 7:10.

I am wondering -

should we get our 3 fast pass in the morning and get them over with encase we want to go back to the resort then get another fast pass for later?

Or

Should we get some in the morning and some in the afternoon?

We usually get 2 in the morning then eat an early lunch, then go to our last fast pass and head to the resort when it's hottest for some pool time.

DS and I can handle the heat. Just stay hydrated and take a water misting fan. DH on the other hand is a different story. He said that he would NEVER EVER go back to WDW again if it meant going when it was hot. And believe me, he meant it. I have never seen a human so miserable. When the rain comes in the summer it pours but, it's usually just a passing afternoon thing and does not last long. Duck into a ride and by the time your ride is done the rain will probably be done as well.

We went last year 22-29 and it was hot hot hot. Like, you step out of the AC and it hits you in the face. But, we managed. Got the kids spray fans (at sports authority) & used Frogtoggs. We hit rope drop every morning, left around 1p and went back after the sun went down. Hoppers were a must for us because of that.

We still had an amazing time, however our Photopass pictures were awful, haha. We look so hot & sweaty in every photo!

That's so funny about the pictures, it's literally hard to find one where we don't look like a mess lol

My kids went last August and I thought they would hate the heat but they had as much fun as ever. *Bring BodyGlide* for each person (or at least a couple). Only one person needed it, but it was a lifesaver. I cannot take the heat and I would not go during this time.

I went once during the end of June and it was 85 and humid at 8am. Since then, I know my limits.

Mornings and evenings in the parks and enjoy the pool and resort (or nap) during the heat. There's always a pool party, games for the kids in the afternoon at the resorts. Can always get that 3pm thunderstorm. Very humid, but with some planning is very doable. Crowds were not that bad
at rope drop.

We love August. It is no more hot or humid than at home, but you are out having fun. Early morning, back to hotel at lunch for swim and rest and shower, back to close the park. The crowds are pretty light, the thunderstorms are so cool, and the days are long.

I went to a conference in Orlando in August 2004. The heat during the day was mid 90s and higher, with high humidity. It was too much for this middle aged man who is way too used to air conditioning.

Also, instead of Body Glide I used a stick of deodorant. In my case, its Arm & Hammer baking soda deoderant. If I can find Body Glide around here, its way more expensive than a stick of deodorant.
