How Bad Is August?

We had reservations for June 6th-June 13th but we had to change them because school got pushed back because of all the snow we got here in Western NC.
We have been in Sept, June, May, Nov, Dec, Oct but never in August.. Im getting really worried but our reservations are the 9th-15th, this is the week before the kids start back to school. We were thinking that the crowds would be lower but we are really, really worried about the heat:eek:..
I am thinking go in first think of the morning and leave about lunch time go back to AKL for a few hours for swimming and if anyone needs naps. Head out again about 5 or so and have dinner and then hit the EMH. It is going to be 9 adults and 3 kids.
Any August travelers out there I would love to hear from you.. Again, I don't know if I am as worried about the crowds as much as I am the heat...
I want to make sure my Sister in law is going to be okay, she is a breast cancer survivor and just had a total hysterectomy last month. The last time we went with her 2 years ago we rented her a scooter because she just tires so easily so I am thinking this would be the thing to do for her again...

Please any input...

Im going the same time as you. Im gonna hydrate bring a fan, and go at rope drop. Im new to august too

It's funny though, for me AK wasn't so bad with all the shade from the foliage there. Epcot. Now for me, THAT place gets HOT. Especially World Showcase.

World Showcase is truly deadly in the daytime in the summer. That's a Must-Don't!

Honestly, if you do some exercise in the heat (an hour or more/day - fast walking is sufficient) for at least 2 weeks before your trip, you will have no problems with the heat. If you avoid the heat before your trip, you will find it hard to move. You cannot avoid the heat in Florida in August, even at night. So train, train, train - and then enjoy the fruits of your labor. You will get so much more done, and feel great while doing it.

this is a great suggestion. thanks for the tip. :beach:

We always go the last week of august and people always say isn't it too hot? I tell them to turn your shower on the hottest setting let the bathroom steam up then turn a blow dryer on and that's exactly what disney feels like in august!! But being a teacher it's the only time I can spend a week in disney with no crowds!

I'll be there as well during that time (Aug. 8 - 16 - Coronado Springs).

Back on topic: It will be hot. I intentionally plan my days around the heat (rope drop, mid-day meal ressies). As others have said, lots of water, Frogg Togg Chilly Pads, breaks in the air conditioning, etc. etc.

Looking forward to a sweaty magical time!... Oh and lots of Mickey's Premium Ice Cream Bars.... OOOOOooooooh YEAH!

Also, rumor has it that pixie dust sticks better when you're sweaty!

We are there exactly those days too! We live in Texas and it is hot here in August, so might as well go have some fun with it. As others said, We are taking midday hotel/pool breaks. We are also taking the opportunity to visit both water parks during this trip. Stay hydrated with free water from counter service. Also need to get more dri-fit for my husband before we leave!

I have been in August at least 3 times. It is always hotter in NY than WDW when we go in August, hopefully this year will be the same.

This is my experience as well. I've gone in August the last three times and I can't tell the difference between NYC and Orlando aside from afternoon showers.

Honestly I've gone in May and been just as hot. I went two times in May and it was 95+ every day.

We actually stay in the park through the rain. I've found that it is easier to ride the rides because people leave and when the rain lets up the outdoor rides have short waits.
