How Bad Did The Parks Get Hit???

Glad that most of WDW is still operational............I am still wondering what is going on with Fort Wilderness. There has not been any news on FW since the evacuation.:(

It's good to hear that most of the theme parks are open. I was most concerned about the animals at AK and Seaworld but I haven't heard any bad news about them.

Interesting that ride inspectors remained in Universal during the storm. I wonder if Disney did the same.

We were talking about why they closed DW yesterday and my DD 5 said "Mom, everything's going to be ok because the hero characters will keep everything safe." She then went onto explain how Genie from Aladdin will blow the storm away from DW and Peter Pan will sprinkle pixie dust to keep everything safe. I only wish it would have been that easy. I love the innocence of youth! Our prayers go out to everyone effected by Charley.

I was also worried about the animals at AK. I imagine they take them in at night, especially in conditions such as these..:(

Disney had engineers on property during the storm, and they checked rides and structures after the storm.

We went to Downtown Disney today for lunch. On the drive there, we saw many down or broken trees. There were several across portions of the four lane highway. The traffic lights were out on CR535 but were on once we reached Disney property. The buildings at Downtown Disney looked fine and there was a lot of activity. There were many sad looking trees and plants on the Disney property, but their crews were hard at work cleaning them up. All in all, I think they came through very well.

Glad to hear that, Feralpeg. Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the info Feralpeg. Disney CM's are the best. They don't waste a minute getting things back in shape. :D

I do hope the animals at AK weren't too spooked by the storm. The poor things.:(

I think the Animals will be OK, here in Miami during Hurricane Andrew, they had Emu's/Ostriches in the Bathrooms! They did lose a lot of Birds due to the avary being destroyed.:o

We just got back tonight- the parks were open today, except for AK- THey closed all of the parks on Friday at 1pm, and even reactivated hoppers, so that you don't "waste" a day- that was a bonus!! We got lots of photos of downed trees, signs, etc- I'll answer any questions, but DH says it's time to go to bed (it's 11 pm):earseek:

How are the crowds does anyone know? I'm headed down tommorow morning and will go M-W. My uncle works at Epcot on maintainence and had to go in 2 hours early, 2am to be precise. Said pretty much everything is back in order though and to head on down.

We got here on Saturday the 7th and were supposed to leave yesterday (8/14) but are now here until Monday. We changed our flight to Monday to avoid waiting several hours at the airport yesterday. We weathered the hurricane in our room at POR. It was only real bad for about an hour or so. We just spent the time watching the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. Disney played movies for the kids on the TV channels normally used for Disney infomercials (as I call them.) We got frequent voice mail updates from the staff as to conditions at the resort. We have many Fort Wilderness guests still staying at POR, as well as other Disney resorts. The last we were updated, FW won't open until Monday at the earliest. Most of the damage here at POR is landscape-related. A few trees down, lots of limbs and leaves everywhere. I did see one light knocked off of its pole. When we drove my sister and her family to MCO yesterday, we saw several houses with roof damage but none of the devastation like near Punta Gorda. All of the theme parks except for AK were open yesterday, and all are open today, including AK. We're off to MK now to enjoy our extra day here. I'll try to post more tonight!

scraphappy,

Thanks for posting! I was wondering what was going on at FW. I hope they are able to reopen tomorrow! (8/16).
We are due to check in at FW 1 week from today, 8/22. If you hear more news about FW, I know I'm not the only one who would love to hear it....................
Thanks again!:bounce:
