How are your kids responding to the Olympics?

Just wondering how other families are handling the Olympics. With my kids, it is pretty funny--both their step-mom and I are "forcing" (not really--they can go to another room and watch something else, but on the big TV, and with me, we're watching the Olympics!) them to watch, and they complain bitterly about it beforehand, but really get excited when the athletes perform. When they complained last night, I told them it was exciting and historic, and important to watch. They groaned and told me, "You sound just like 'Jane' (step-mom)!" I had to call her and share it with her, we got a good laugh over it (yes, we're one of those weird blended families that gets along well).

Are other kids complaining, too? Do they enjoy watching despite themselves?

Our oldest is watching specific events and I leave the room I am not a big fan of the summer games to many events IMHO that are not worthy of being there. Like ping pong and badminton etc. Keep it to sports like Tennis and rowing and track and feild and swimming and diving then maybe it would garner some interest from me.

DS isn't interested and we have plenty of other TV's so it's not really an issue. I watch on and off but I'm the only one.

We are ALL glued to gymnastics!

The rest we can take or leave.

GO USA!!!

My 3-year old is loving watching the "boys jumping into water (diving)" and the "boy flipping(gymnastics)." Oh to him everyone, even mommy, is a boy.

I am watching a LOT of the Olympics. I have the Olympic song stuck in my head now. I'm gonna be sad when they're over. :(

But in the mean time, GO USA!!!! :teeth: :teeth:

Like other kids here, my guys are particularly enjoying swimming and gymnastics. I like the volleyball myself--mens, womens, indoors, beach--doesn't matter. I think it's because it is one of the few sports where I actually know and understand all the rules. (Nope, definitely not an athlete here!) :teeth:

I've got my 17 year old daughter addicted. I would come down to the computer room to watch them since my husband was watching something else upstairs. At first she would yell at me when I would get excited and "talk" to the athletes. Now she sits here with me and watches.

My three boys are all completely different. The oldest is nearly 15 (this weekend, yikes!) and only watches comedy or sci-fi stuff. The middle is our jock and he has it on constantly and even found that when it isn't on nbc, it's on Bravo. The youngest is 8 and prefers gameboy or playstation2 to any tv show. Go figure!

While I'm not much of an athlete myself, I tend more toward the middle one. I'm watching quite a bit. And hubby? Hmm, he never watches anything more than 5 minutes. He just channel surfs.

In case anyone is keeping score, yes we have too many tv's. Six.

does drooling over the male swimmers, divers, and gymantis count?

I am very athletic, and LOVE the olympics. Winter or Summer, I'll watch any event that's on. Even now, gymnastics is on, on the tv in here!! We only have two, so usually I watch it in the family room, so my sister{17} can watch what she wants. She only watches tennis{her passion...that and she loves Andy Roddick ;) } Right now, I'm in love with swimming. And I think Lenny Krayzelburg is the hottest guy swimming :teeth: I'm actually really anxiously awaiting track and field, though. That's my biggest sport, and I just finished my summer season. I love it, and I can't wait to watch it...maybe pick up some pointers :D

LOL there's only two of us here...and we have 4 tv's :o

I'm watching every minute of swimming and gymnastics. Hubby is kinda watching it with me...but not really.

We chant U S A!

Ds is keeping track of records that have been broken in
swimming. We all thought syncronized diving was kinda
funny/odd. We've watched tennis, badmiton,ping pong
with great interest -who woulda thunk it!?

Going to my parents tomorrow and Mom says Dad is watching
Bonanza reruns instead of the Olympics. Bummer.

I love the events like judo and fencing,or as my brother calls it "Organzed fighting".I'm hooked on diving, swimming and gymanstic too plus I yell at the tv:)

My daughter doesn't watch it at all...neither do I....summer olympics are boring...the only ones I think are exciting are the skiing and luge in the winter, the rest I don't care to watch...swimming is not fun to watch and I don't like gymnastics at all....beach volleyball is alright but I wouldn't watch it on tv.....

All four of us are fans, although my kids don't get to watch much except on weekends. DH and I rarely watch sports together -- he's an avid sports fan but I only like watching Olympic or ameteur competition -- so its a nice way to spend time together. :)

We have been watching almost every evening. The kids climb in bed with us, and then ask all kinds of questions. It is a lot of fun.

DD4 climbed on top of the dining room table last night and, raised her hands over her head, and hollered "ta-da!" She was a hoot.

Today I signed both kids up for gymnastics starting in September. They are both really excited about it.
