How are you spending the "extra" cheap gas is creating?

It goes to the savings account as does anything that comes in under budget in checking. I keep everything in Quicken and also have a budget spreadasheet. When we come in under budget for a month, we transfer to savings online. We keep a checking balance of around $3000 for monthly expenses and when we have excess, we transfer to savings. We are currently under our savings goal because we had to buy a new truck for DH for work.

I haven't noticed where my extra money goes, food, I guess?

Boy, you don't post about being happy about the gas prices being down on Facebook around here....you get your head bit off by people that are working in the oil industry. I have seen so many arguments lately on the subject. One friend posted that she was happy it only cost $15 to fill up her truck and it was on after that. Really nasty things said on both sides. :guilty:

No extra money here - our health care went up much more than our gas went down, not to mention groceries and utilities all went up as well. And we are so "lucky" to have a new governor who is raising taxes all over the place so no savings for us.
are you in Louisiana lol you sound like me

Nope Pa where governor is trying to tax everything from funerals to baby wipes plus raise the personal income tax! Plus we also pay the highest gas taxes in the country so our prices aren't as low as the rest of the country!

We are seeing quite a bit of savings because I drive about 50 miles a day round trip to work and I usually fill up once a week. Our biggest savings is that DH has a big, gas guzzling truck, but has recently gotten a take home car at work (he is a police officer), so now the county pays for his gas to get to and from work. We haven't filled up his truck in several months - huge savings. Unfortunately, this big savings (probably several hundred dollars a month) is just being absorbed back into our house hold expenses.

I'd have to say that I think anything I've saved in gas has gone to the rise in cost of groceries.

Husband and I both work in O&G... since our industry is experiencing massive layoffs we are saving every cent we can. :(

Vacation Jar. We hope to road trip from IL to AZ and meet up with DD who will fly in from San Francisco~ the lower gas prices are helping us afford the trip both in gas for the car and her airline costs.

WOW- how low is your gas? That's insane for a truck.
I filled up an Elantra today and it was $20! Of course our gas taxes are really high, so we'll never get super low.

A few weeks back it was .49 a gallon SOMEWHERE in MI. I live in the western 'burbs of Chicago and the lowest I have seen by me was last week at $1.26 and my kid filled his jeep for under $20. It was a historic moment , lol. Prices jumped a dime the next day, and another 8 cents the day after that. It is now $1.78 at that same station one week later. Soon we will have summer grade which is higher..but we are still hoping to pull off that road trip!

Saving $40 a month on gas is nice, and it is helping to offset the $400 a month increase in my health care insurance due to the "AFFORDABLE" healthcare act.:crutches::crutches::crutches::crutches::crutches::crutches::crutches::crutches:

We have filled up our Escape for $13, BUT it has the tiniest darn tank for an SUV!

If they ever do away with the affordable healthcare act, the health insurance industry would still raise their rates saying it was cause by discounting of the healthcare act! We can't win!
