How are You Fighting Inflation?

Have not travelled for many years due to the pandemic, a few small trips here and there, but after pricing out hotel stays and park tickets for a few trips we wanted to take, we found it more cost effective to look into a DVC Resale contract. No looking back now.

New member Or did you put in an offer? Good luck or Welcome Home :)

I hear you. We have a new great grand son. Congratulations on your new great grandchild. They are wonderful.
I know how you are trying to save at disney, but I am wondering if it is even remotely possible to save on food while at disney. It seems their QS is costly, as are snacks. I dont' know what the answer is, but eating granola bars for breakfast sounds good. Disney has a captive audience and can charge what they want. I guess I would drink water (not costly drinks) and if you are a small eater, order kids meals. My husband and I usually eat kids meals (or at least I do) because there was too much food with regular meals for me. That might help.
Have a wonderful time:)
Yes, I hear you and congrats on arriving at the great grandparent status! We always drink water even going out to eat, so we got that one. I use the all ears website which gives you every restaurant and quick service and snacks in every park, with prices, and they update. I look for good prices and good eats for low prices and it really helps to know where to go to get what at what cost. Still working on other things to bring that travel well to avoid buying a lot of extra snacks. There are certain things I splurge on like Churro's...I like the ones in Mexico with the chocolate dipping sauce...yummy! Food is really the only thing I can save a little on, def. not the bulk of the budget but we are going just the same! And don't forget we now have to pay for transport to the resort from the airport, and....we now have to pay for luggage as many airline don't allow a carryon for free anymore. And the cost of the plane tickets, and on and on about things costing more. With all that said, we are really excited about our trip!

It happened again with yesterday's groceries.

Not only do we need to worry about inflation - but every week there is an error with the grocery bill. Human or computer (which is still a human who must enter info).

I have to check my receipt all the time. Hard to follow the cashier ringing when I am trying to bag groceries. The time that I remember to do a quick check of the receipt while leaving, usually no error. When I wait until I get home - always an error.

Most recent examples - I bought peaches on sale. They did not have a code. Apparently there were two peaches mixed in there with a code that were the expensive ones. I ended up paying for the entire batch the higher price and not the sale price. Would not have bought so many or bought the expensive ones.

Bought vitamins on sale 50% off. Usually no problem. Well it did not ring at 50% - I sent my husband back (I have broken foot and have not shopped in almost 4 weeks) to double check in case he made a mistake (can happen) and he was reimbursed $6. When he got home, I said, neither one of you knows math? The credit should have been $8.99.

Another pet peeve - and also about a month ago, I noticed the cashier holding on the the produce bag a little too much when she had the bag on the scale. . I questioned the weight. She told me the weight. I said, yes, I realize that but can you please weigh the apples again. Does not seem like 4 small apples weigh almost 2 pounds. I was very nice. I did not want to call her out on it. Sure enough it was much less than what rang up. She had to get an override since she cold not seem to take off original one. On my way out, I saw the front end person who did the override and told her - wether or not it's intentional, she is in a hurry or sloppy, she should not be doing what she is doing. Had I not questioned it, I would have paid a few dollars more with all more produce.

I bought a dip that I thought was a $1 off. I get home and it rang up the regular price.

Just some examples - I have not gone back for many things. I let so many things go - but it does add up.

This should probably be a whole other thread - but lately just getting frustrated that I need to have 5 eyes and look at the receipt over and over :(

I think I will start throwing everything in the wagon after cashier rings it up so I can pay attention to the screen. Pack it up when I get to the car.
Yes, these things have happened to me as well. I can't always watch the register, so now I ask, "did that ring up as the sale price" which is something I've been doing when I have sale items. What drives me crazy is the medical bills that pour in with "pay this amount" and you're trying to figure out how the heck your insurance actually works, and you have bills coming from labs and offices all separately. I have to sit down and call my insurance and make sure things that are supposed to be covered are actually covered. It's sort of like calling Disney and have to call back three times because 1. you got disconnected, 2. they give you information you know is wrong, and 3. after all that they finally got it right and you have to check MDE to make sure.

We already do everything for ourselves (examples: hair cut/dye, lawncare, house remodeling, etc) so honestly, pretty much nothing.

I am going through some medical bills too right now - at least I saw a few being processed with our medical insurance. I am waiting for the "amount you may owe" bills and can then call up hospital, etc. to get itemized bill. I broke my foot and ankle - so ambulance, ER and some doctors processed with insurance. I will have orthopedic after - not done yet. Still in boot.

It's crazy - all our bills - I have caught plenty of errors especially with our TMobile bill in the past.

And don't forget we now have to pay for transport to the resort from the airport,

if you are going to have to pay for transportation from the airport to the resort when you arrive then you might compare prices and consider one of the car services that offers a 30 minute stop at walmart or one of the other stores. with online ordering you can set up an order upwards of days ahead of time and despite creating a supposed pickup time most will hold your order for upwards of an entire day (so if your plane arrives a bit late, traffic is heavy...). we've done this in the past to have easy breakfasts, grab and go snacks/lunches, drinks...dh would wait with the kiddos in the car at the pick up area while i ran in and grabbed stuff like the premade wraps, chicken strips, premade salads and other stuff from the deli area (that you can't order on grocery pickup). we just make sure to always arrange for a room that has both a fridge and microwave (i've been known to pack a collapsable cooler in my suitcase so i can fill it with ice in the room).

Fortunately we still have over half a beef in the freezer with another whole one in January. An entire pig in pork chops and sausage and another half in just sausage. We also purchase cases of chicken far below grocery prices. We’ve put up corn, squash, okra, pickles, relish, peas , green and Lima beans, tomatoes, salsa sauces with much more to put away. I know everyone doesn’t have the freezer space and garden area but it certainly does help.

i've often joked with my husband that if i could do one insanely opulent upgrade to our home it would be a walk in freezer :thumbsup2

This is pent up demand and delayed vacations. Once we're through this we'll see how much demand really exists.
I agree. I would assume they are going to want to keep the resorts semi- full. I figure airlines will cut flights and staff and keep prices high....maybe? I do believe we'll have deflation eventually... but not in goods that are needed to survive like food and energy. Housing is started to collapse, and someone let the air out of the 401k's and IRA's. 2023 will not be a good year.

Housing isn't collapsing. There aren't enough homes. Killing off demand does little when you have very little supply. The market has come down because rates have gone up. That's simply how discounting cash flows work when the risk free rate goes up. Nothing super exciting here.

I'm not worried about 2023. We might experience a mild recession. We're probably already in one right now. It's really going to be able what the Fed does in September and later on. They can't impact food and energy prices.
