How are you doing on Ebay?

Ugh, I really have to much stuff that I want to get rid of and was thinking of selling on ebay, I am a little scared though about doing so.

So I was wondering how are you doing on ebay with the whole bed bug scare? I am wondering if people are still buying with the uncertainty of where things are coming from.

I have lots of text books, toys, and clothing (men and women) and was also wondering how does men's clothing do on ebay? I have so many dockers and things that no longer fit DF.

The bed bug issue never crossed my mind. This last week I sold toys, women's running shorts and kid's shoes.

I think the books and toys will sell well. I suggest you find another outlet for the men's clothing (as I haven't had much luck men's clothing selling on Ebay) such as a consignment sale. Good luck!

Thanks, yeah I was thinking that men probably don't shop on ebay for clothing lol. I wish I could find a way to make some money off his clothes though, we don't have any consignment shops that take men's clothing around here, and no consignment sales. To do a yard sale I would have to get a permit from the town and then have it at my mom's house around the block.

Ebay has been great for me to selling games, and books, and cds. I also buy from them all the time. If I were you, I would combine your Ebay listing s with a local ad such as Craigslist. I too doubt that people would pruchase clothing without being able to see them in person.

Basically it's a lot of people with nothing better to worry about going hysterical over bugs that have been around for millenia, dissappeared for 50 years or so and are now making a comeback. They travel well so now these people are avoiding hotels, libraries, basically any place they can make contact either directly or indirectly with other humans

B/c bed bugs can be in that person's house that you are buying the item from and then be sent into your house.
You're also supposed to be vigilant at consignment shops as well. So with the hysteria I thought maybe people weren't buying as much from other homes.

I'm not freaking out, you could pick them up anywhere, they were actually at my local movie theater when we were in WDW in August.

Bedbugs are tiny and can get into basically anything that has nooks and crannies. So if you're paranoid then a place like ebay would be danger central.

I agree it's not something to get hysterical over, but it is a big problem in NYC. Several movie theaters & stores in main touristy areas have had to shut down for short periods to deal with bed bugs. They can also be really difficult & costly to get rid of if they get into your home. One of my friends got them in her apartment (this was years ago) because the youth hostel she was working in got them & some hitchhiked home with her. Thankfully her boss gave her some of the chemical spray they were using to get rid of them at the hostel, so she didn't have to pay for an exterminator. It was still a big PITA & took a few weeks of spraying down her mattress (which she then could not sleep on until it dried) before they were gone.

I wouldn't worry about bed bugs ruining your sales, I think the scare is probably sort of a regional thing. I only know about it from the Dis, but watch the news, read papers and frequent a number of other forums.

My sister sells art on ebay and recently we got to talking about how it seems to sell on ebay now you really need your image to be professional. Nobody wants your beaten up box of stuff, but they want that neatly arranged stuff in the cute picture that comes in your beaten up box...

It's a big problem because people have forgotten how to deal with them. Remember the old movies and commercials where people would take a quarter and bounce it on the sheets? That was to make it more difficult for bedbugs to get out from under the mattress. People also used to change their sheets every day. But the big breakthrough in bedbug control was DDT, which ended up getting banned due to a bogus book by Rachel Carson called Silent Spring. Once their control was gone it was just a matter of time before they made a resurgence. Now people have to learn all over again. But bedbugs don't spread bubonic plague, or malaria, or West Nile Virus, or Lymes disease. Bedbugs don't do anything but bite you and annoy you half to death. That's the good news. The bad news is entire generations of people have never had to experience it so they are freaking out.

The reason they are making a comeback now is because the government has outlawed the one and only chemical that is really effective in killing them. It's a nightmare for hotel owners and innkeepers.

I just bought a ton of infant clothes on ebay. When they arrive, they're going straight into the washer.. I'd do that anyhow, bed bug scare or no bed bug scare. I don't stress about it. We recently had a bedbug infestation at our family vacation cabin. We took the matresses and boxsprings outside and burned them, then throughly cleaned then inside before bringing in the new mattresses. No more bedbugs.

Regardless of bed bugs you should always use common sense when bringing in something used. I've purchased a bag of doll clothes from value village only to (icky!) discover it covered in cat pee. Another friend purchased a piece of wood furniture moved it in then found it was infested with ants. Then there was that article of a woman who bought a sofa and found a live kitten in it. I'm not scared to buy used things - I just look it over carefully.

I still use ebay to purchase collectors items. But it's somewhat more of a buyers market right now. I've had some luck selling on etsy as well. I haven't tried Bonanzle yet but am thinking of it.

Nope, don't remember those commercials or seeing that in movies. I never encountered bedbugs until my friend got them in her apartment maybe 7 or 8 years ago. I also got bitten when a hostel I stayed in in Barcelona had them. Thankfully none tagged along in our luggage, even though all we could do as a precaution was wash everything we had with us. I know they don't carry diseases or anything, but they are annoying & a PITA to get rid of if they get into your home.
