I just booked a last minute vacation for the first week in May. Our home is VWL...since we booked last minute and it is a short (5 days) trip, I wanted to book a OKW studio, because they offer the 2 queen beds (I have 2 DD's). Any help would be wonderful. Thanks!!

I love OKW - the big difference besides the beds is the bathroom - VWL/BCV have those tiny bathroom for the studios - OKW has a nice one - plenty of room - but these vary. and instead of having your kitchennett behind the bathroom - it is besides it.

Now I like a water view - so I like bldg 18 or 55 - decide what type of view you want - water, golf or woods - or you can be close to the HH - where the restuarants, front desk, arcade, main swimming pool area, gym, community hall are located.

these are building 11-14, 62-64 - 62-64 are the newest and are the only ones with an elevator.

here's a map

Our last stay in a studio was in building 21. We were on the groung floor with a view of the golf course. The location was great! Very quiet and private. The studio was very spacious. We were a party of four and had plenty of room.

Hi We loved our visit to an OKW studio last Dec !! the room is very large and the beds very comfy.. OH the bathroom was huge .. We stayed in building 43 .. You should have a great time

We also loved our studio unit in bldg 55. We were far removed from all of the action, which was good for us. Our building was immediately next to a quiet pool, so we really enjoyed that alot. I would not hesitate to stay in an OKW studio again.....the room was clean and had PLENTY of room. The rooms are painted in shades of peach and seafoam green, with bright pastel bedspreads and accents.

We LOVED the balcony & watching people going to & from Downtown Disney via OKW's boats.

My favorite part about the studio was the huge bathroom, done in tones of peach. It was bigger than my own bathroom at home!!!

You'll love the space in the OKW studio, but remember:

There are no room safes in the studios.

The bathroom is huge! Not your average hotel bathroom. But the toilet and sink are in the same room and more than one person won't be able to get ready at once.

But there is a mirror over the sink in the kitchenette area, and quite a bit of counter space..

So, with the mirror/sink/counter, someone could at least "partially" get ready in that area, too...

One tip, OKW is "condo" style, with outside entrances for the units.

They have an exterior light at each door. For some reason, the peephole of the studios directs the light right at the head of one of the beds. It's very annoying if you're trying to get to sleep and you feel as if there's a laser light aimed at you.

Some guests tape over it to block the light.

There are plans to add wallsafes to the studios at OKW, but we haven't heard if that's happened yet.

And, while I love OKW and have been a member since the start, I've got to confess, I prefer the bathroom layout of the newer resorts. While OKW's bathroom is much larger, I like having the vanity outside of the tub/commode area.

We've used the kitchenette at OKW as a vanity, but it's not as nice a layout as at BCV.

We own at VWL and love the atomosphere there - but I stayed at OKW in a studio in October and then a studio at VWL in December - and the beds at OKW are MUCH comfier. The mattresses were just changed and they are big, homey mattresses. The ones at VWL are pretty thin and saggy already. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the quiet pools. It is totally different but very enjoyable. And parking right outside was really nice. We were in one of the farthest rooms from the elevator at VWL last time and it is a pain if you just want to run out and get something.

Unless you have a need for it I would suggest requesting a studio that is not a handicapped unit. With a handicapped unit you will have no bathtub. Your shower will consist of a tile floor and a curtain - no enclosure due to the need to roll a wheel chair in. There will also be no storage space under the bathroom cabinet that is just outside the bathroom door. I would also suggest a studio on the second floor or higher for a better view. Handicapped units are definitely a necessity but the difference between a standard studio can suprise someone who is unaware of the differences. Have a good trip!

According to MS, there are only 19 wheelchair accessible studios in all of OKW, so don't be overly worried about getting one if you don't want one.

...about the same place. We found studios at OKW to be not much different from a Moderate Resort room. We actually thought it was kind of cramped.

I am sure someone with a longer OKW history than I can jump in here but the room sizes from studios on up to grand villas is greater at OKW than at the other DVC resorts. I also have not seen "moderate" accomodations to include a balcony that you can go outside and relax on. Just my opinion.

Square footage of room sizes. OKW studio is larger than all except HH studio. I have also found the outside porch off the studios at OKW to be about 8 x 8ft in general. I know the porch area at HH studio was more like 8 x 12. The porch area at VB was much smaller in a Gardern View Inn Room about 5 x 8 ft.

Does anyone else have info (Doc?) on the decks at the other DVC resorts. I don't think I have ever seen this information in my DVC literature or on this board.

We've only stayed at an OKW studio once, and it was only for one night (added a night at the end of a trip). We really weren't that thrilled with it.

I think that part of the problem was that we didn't like the apartment building style of the resort. We were also on the third floor, and I might have liked it better on a lower level. Also, I'm just not a big fan of outside hallways.

The studios at OKW are about 390 square feet. At the moderates the rooms are 314 sq feet. As a previous poster mentioned you don't get a balcony or the kitchenette in the moderates either. Just as a point of reference, the deluxe rooms at AKL and WL are also smaller than the studio at OKW. and the average size room at the Yacht club is about the same size. The studios at OKW are unusually shaped though and have larger bathrooms than most other hotel rooms.
