I am renting a 5 BR house with friends for a Moms (w/ kids) weekend. I always tip Mousekeeping so was wondering if you tip when you stay at a house as well. I already know not everone tips at hotels and am not trying to start a debate on that- just not sure what is the norm with houses and don't want to offend either way. (Since yes sometimes getting a tip can be offending as well as not recieving one when you do expect it.) Does that make any sense???

I don't. They clean before you arrive, and after you depart, but unless you are paying for it explicitly, you will not have service during your stay.

I think it's not expected from STR home cleaners, but in any service industry, if you feel someone went out of their way to go the "extra mile" it's always nice to tip and say thank you! :)

No, we've never left one. Most of the houses/condos that we've rented ask you to do a few things (like put the linens in front of the washer, take out the garbage, etc.), so we've never even thought about leaving a tip. I honestly can't see it as being something we would ever do. JMHO

We've stayed in houses four times now, never left a tip and I don't really see a reason to. You do your own housekeeping while you are there (laundry, dishes, bedmaking, etc). The only times we've had anyone from the management company come out is when the pool had issues (heat not working, too much chlorine, etc).

We had to pay a cleaning fee the last time we rented a condo, so we didn't tip. Even with the fee, though, it was the best bargain for a vacation rental!
