I posted this on my TR, but just in case you have plans to eat there...just take this with a grain of salt. :flower3:

Alright here it is. This is out of order for the TR, but in the case that you're going like next weekend, I'd hate for you to not read this first!

It was Saturday, Jan 8, 2011. We didn't make any reservations, mostly because I didn't anticipate needing them. In retrospect, we probably should have made them. However, we were looking forward to wandering through the shops at DTD while we waited. We arrived around 6 PM, I think. We waited in a short line to give our name. Upon giving our name, we were told 15 minutes for outside seating, 40 minutes for inside. We were hungry so we said outside (heaters were there). We also had to give a form of ID (AAA card, Costco card, etc.)

The pager worked until Wetzel's Pretzels on the east, and AMC theaters on the west. We went to barely one store before the pager went off. At that time I was considering switching to inside, and DH said he didn't mind. We just wanted it to be a tiny bit more special, instead of patio seating. I didn't want to sit next to a line of people trying to get a table. Hostess said no problem, and said it would be another 20-30 mins. After some more store, I think it was around a 30 minute wait total.

When we got inside we were so happy.

This was going to be great. The HoB has a great atmosphere. It is loud, its dimly lit with bright spotlights of color. The seating area is very small, with a crowded bar right next to it. It has a fun feeling that just makes you glad to be there. I could tell it was the kind of place that you go to for a good time. There were couples, friends, groups, families of all different sorts in here. Very much like you'd find at any other restaurant. We've never had a meal start out so good and end so badly.

We were given menus and then waited a long time before anyone came to wait on us. It was a very chipper girl who informed us that she would take care of us while our waitress was on break for the next 30ish minutes. She took our drink orders and about 5 minutes later returned (with our complex order of two waters) and we ordered an appetizer. Shortly after we had made our entree choices and ordered as well.

Here are the menus:

At this point we were doing well.

We had our gift certificate from restaurants.com all ready to go and were excited about ordering all this food. About 10 minutes later we started to worry a bit. Well, at least I did. Our spinach dip appetizer still hadn't arrived...and I saw three or four go by to people at the bar, outside, and even a table next to us. Considering this was a place where service isn't their greatest priority or concern, we didn't see a server til it was too late. DH asked our temp server and she, in her what we learned to be usual fashion, admitted that she had completely forgot and asked if we still wanted it. We said no, as we don't like to eat our appetizer with our meal.

We became a little less enthused about this restaurant.

DH's salad, that he paid $3 extra for as a part of his entree arrived. This was the most boring, awful salad in the entire world. It was watery lettuce, with some carrots, tomatoes, a couple of sliced onions, and dollar store croutons.

After DH managed to eat most of his salad, our entrees arrived. I was so excited to finally eat!

Here is my sandwich:
"The Elwood" - Blackened Cajun Chicken Breast Sandwich with Chili-garlic mayo, diced green chilies and sour cream on an artisan roll with french fries. $13.99

Mine was very good. The sauce was a little much by the end, but the bread was amazing. I paid extra for the sweet potato fries which were worth the $2 they cost for such deliciousness in my mouth! The chicken wasn't the best I've had, but overall, it was a great entree. If there ever was a next time I will ask for the "chili-garlic mayo" on the side.

And DH had:
Smokehouse "Blues Burger" - BBQ sauce, bacon and choice of cheese $12.99

While his fries were also good, his burger was not. His bun literally crumbled every time he touched it. It was dry and had no flavor. The burger was also medium-well to well-done, even though. He ate his way through it, though not happy at all with his choice. With a crumbly bun and an overcooked burger, this entree was more than bad. DH claimed the only thing that could make it worse would be food poisoning (no he didn't get that).

At this point we just wanted to leave. We waited at least 10 minutes for our plates to be cleared. We'd been there for close to an hour and a half, not including our wait, and were looking forward to a night in the parks, not waiting for a check. DH had his credit card ready when the waitress (our real one) finally arrived. I think we were offered a dessert since they screwed up our appetizer, but we declined. We had no desire to stay any longer. Although people use these $25 things all the time, we had an issue because we were $2 short of $35. I think our "real" waitress saw our frustration and wanting to, leave and used DH's suggestion of charging us for a coke to get us to the right amount. Of course, this meant more waiting.

I genuinely try to be a nice person, and that there could be an off night, a bad day, etc. But between the lousy service, confusion over two waitresses, one who was a little absent-minded, forgetting an appetizer, bad salad, bad burger, and the longest simple meal we've ever eaten.

Short Summary:
Atmosphere: 7/10 (it gets annoying after awhile)
Food: 5/10 (loved those fries and my sandwich was ok, but that's about it)
Service: 1/10 (1 is better than a 0...but that's my benefit for the fact that it was a busy Saturday night)
Cost vs. Quality: 4/10 (really, $3 for that salad? $2 for sweet potato fries?)
Total Bill: $18 including tip
Would you go again: NO!
Recommend to a friend: NEVER! Remember, this is a review for dinner only.

house of blues is cool... skiingfast and I had that same burger you guys did,, it was soo good!

After having lunch there once, we only went to the house of blues because Tortilla Jo's closed and were weren't done having drinks. Not my favorite place in Downtown Disney.
