Has anyone ever used Hotwire to book a hotel... I'm a bit nervous because I don't know what the hotels are...

Krzkat, I've used priceline three times with excellent results. Have gotten Mariott Suites for $35, Hilton for $39 and Sheraton for $45. Got bidding advice on biddingfortravel.com. If you know how to bid, you can't go wrong.

I have used Hotwire several times. You can get a great deal (like $57 for a 4* hotel in Philadelphia) or you can get just as good a deal as any other web site including the hotel's own site. Be sure you know ahead of time what the "regular rate" would be if you booked it anywhere else. Also be aware that the rate quoted from hotwire on the first page is not the final price. Hotwire adds a "service charge & taxes" figure to the first quote. This "total" amount is shown on the final transaction page when Hotwire confirms your transaction and exposes the actual name of the hotel.

I booked our pre-cruise night at MCO thru hotwire. People seem to get better deals thru priceline but both betterbidding and biddingfortravel offer excellent advice. If you read and research those websites I think you can not go wrong.

The down side is these reservations are non-cancellable.

Through Hotwire we stick with the "suites" hotels and have usually gotten one of the Amerisuites. Both are very nice properties.
With Priceline, I would only stick with the highest star level. The ones that are one level lower are mostly okay, but there is one SLUM LaQuinta (not to be confused with the LaQuinta Suites) that is a total dive and that you can get at that level. At the highest level, we've gotten the Marriott, Holiday Inn Select, and Renaissance, and all have been nice. They tend to put you in a connecting room when you are Priceline, but we're never heard any noise.

I use priceline... I can't bring myself to pay full price for a hotel anymore!

Good Luck!

have not used Hotwire, but will be using Priceline for the first time for January.

We used Hotwire for out pre-cruise night back in March. Got the Sheraton Suites for $57 -a great deal. For our post cruise stay at WDW, we used Priceline, and got the Marriott Orlando World Center (across the hwy from Downtown Disney) for $85/night (reg rate was $269). We got a great room - I'd definitely do it again. BTW, the websites mentioned in the previous replies are great - I used them both.
