HOTHS Costume Guidelines

Anybody have any experience dressing as Indiana Jones for HOTHS? The guidelines don't specifically mention whips and it's kind of integral to the character, so I'm wondering if a very clearly fake whip is okay. Not asking for opinions, just asking if anyone has tried it. Thanks.

Right, so I mentioned I read the guidelines. For reference whips aren't generally considered weapons in California law, so I was asking if anyone had specific experience with this particular situation.

You could try taking it. The worst thing that would happen is that DCL would confiscate it and hold it during the cruise. You would be able to pick it up when you disembark.

I’d be surprised if you find a person whi had that specific experience with the limited number of people on these boards, but FWIW, I just wanted to chime in to say I don’t think the whip really ”makes or breaks” that costume. It’s the hat and leather jacket that make the character recognizable.

I'm doing the Temple of Doom look where his shirt is all ripped because I don't want to pack the jacket, but I'll have the hat, satchel and (empty) holster. But I figured I'd somebody had done it before I could use their experience. I'm not talking a $300 replica, just a little $10 pleather thing.

I think you’ll be okay. Just pack it with the rest of the costume/hat so it is more obvious what it is for if they inspect your suitcase, maybe with a sticky note that says “Halloween Costume” I don’t think you have to worry about it getting confiscated as a “weapon” but could be seen as a “restraining device”
