Hotels within walking distance

Besides the three on-site hotels, are there any hotels around Universal that are a walkable distance?

I see some hotels close by, but it looks like the route would involve going on Universal Blvd, and I don't know about the walk-ability of that road -- I would like to have a sidewalk along the route.

The Doubletree on major blvd and across the street from them on caravan ct is the hyatt place universal and holiday inn maingate to universal
All of these are walkable and its about a 10 to 15 min walk with sidewalks all the way

The link you gave really doesn't give much info but speaking from experiance it does give good advise about walking it is hard walking in the heat during summer and out of hotels I gave the only one I haven't stayed at is The Hyatt Place Universal and The Holiday Inn Main Gate to Universal is the one I will never stay at agian but thats just my oppinion

the Days Inn that is listed in the book has not been received well by many who have stayed there.
i did a couple of nights there once and it was the pitts.

hopefully others will post on their opinions of the off site hotels that are walking distance to UO to help the op.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Maingate. I would not recommend it and would not stay there again, but the walk to the parks was fine. The Doubletree, Holiday Inn Express, and Hyatt Place are in the same general area. I might look into one of those hotels for another trip.

You do have to cross a major street, but there are crosswalks and traffic lights with walk signals. Once you cross that street, it's actually a nice relaxing walk, well-lit at night and it has good sidewalks the whole way. You enter Citywalk through the valet parking entrance. It takes about 10 minutes if you walk at a decent pace.

It's an easy walk, but it is a 10-minute walk, be sure everyone in your party is able to walk that far. You will also need to keep a close eye on small children while crossing major streets.

If you have a rental car, one thing to know is that not all of the close offsite hotels have free parking. Be sure to research parking charges ahead of time and add that to your room rate when you are pricing the hotels. If you decide not to walk and instead drive your rental car to the parks, you may get stuck with paying parking fees twice - parking at the hotel and parking at Universal.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Universal Maingate last February and thought it was fine. Several times I made the walk to Universal with no difficulties. (Making that walk in summertime may well be a different story, however!) To the best of my recollection, the Holiday Inn offered free parking, free internet, and had a minifridge in the room. I didn't have any interaction with the hotel pool or other such amenities. Also, I got a very competitive Priceline rate. Maybe I would have been less happy paying closer to rack/seasonal rates; still, the lodging seemed fine to me.

Just a quick note about crossing Kirkman on foot: The "walk" light does not provide as much time as perhaps it should. Kirkman is very busy, so scoot across quickly as soon as the walk light illuminates.

I've been at the Hyatt Place a couple times, it's a really nice hotel.

Walkability is fine. They give you plenty of time to cross the main street there, on the walk signal. It's really not a stressful walk at all.

My kids stayed at the Doubletree and thought it was good. They say they would stay there again.

We stayed at the Doubletree in Dec. 2008. Nice, clean hotel. The rooms were slightly larger than a typical chain hotel and had a minifridge. Sidewalks all the way. One major highway, but as long as you use the crosswalk, it's no problem. We went back to the hotel every day for a swim break, so we made the trek a couple times a day with three kids (8-12). It was about a 10-15 minute walk to Citywalk from the hotel.

We stayed at Hyatt Place and loved it. Really big rooms, with free Wi-fi and free continental breakfast every morning.

We walked a few times, but it was summer and really hot, especially walking back in the afternoon. When I stayed there, Hyatt Place had a free shuttle to the parks, which we used a few times. Times were not optimal, but that's the way it is. A taxi one way was $5, and we did that a few times. Paid the guy $7 with a tip, so it cost the same as parking for 2 ways. We didn't have a car, so it was one of our only options. Morning was not too bad walking, and we could get there by rope drop and then we'd either take the shuttle or take a taxi back.

My daughter and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Maingate and really enjoyed it. We were upgraded to a suite and had a very nice living room and full size fridge and Microwave & stove top.

Rooms were clean and the pool area was pleasant.

Walking was pretty easy but I agree that Kirkman was a challenge to cross. You need to be really careful and move quickly. Other than that the rest of the walk was pretty easy. We tended to walk or use the free shuttle in the morning and then if we wanted to stay later we paid the $5 for a cab back. I was too pooped out after a hard day in the parks to walk back.
