After showing DH footage of Endeavour being flown over Sacramento, he said it would be cool to see the shuttle in person (I was hoping he would want to do that!:cool1:). So, we were considering coming down a day early to see Endeavour. We have 3 nights booked at HOJO in mid December (Monday-Thursday) but were thinking of adding on Sunday night somewhere near the Science Center so we can go to the museum during the first part of Monday then head down to Anaheim in the afternoon. We would add a night somewhere in Anaheim but I am trying to avoid LA traffic in the morning.

Anyone have suggestions of hotels in the area that are $100 or less (wishful thinking?) and are clean and in a safe area? When in Anaheim, we typically stay at HOJO or BWPPI. It does not need to have a breakfast but would be a nice plus.

Thanks for any tips!

The Science Center isn't really in a nice part of town, at least in my opinion. Try looking for a hotel in downtown L.A. (there are many major chain hotels there and it's close to Exposition Park). Then look on Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire, etc. for the low rates.
Just to add, avoiding L.A. traffic in the morning is a good idea, but getting from downtown L.A. to DLR will involve traffic (from mod. to very heavy depending on the time), too.

There is a Radison across the street from USC and within walking distance of the Science Center. The area isn't that bad since its across the street from the university. It can be pricey if there is a football game the weekend of your trip. There are also other chain hotels downtown.

The only decent hotel near Exposition Park is the Radisson, but I think it usually runs well over $100. The hotels in Downtown LA are generally fine, though you will often have to pay a high price for parking.

Thanks for the info. DH was wondering if it would be better to just go late Thursday morning (leaving Anaheim around 11 or so) before we head home. How would the traffic be going into LA at that time?

It's basically in South Central, blocks from USC. I would stay elsewhere and make the drive in.

I agree with everyone else that is saying to stay either in Anaheim, or Downtown LA. If you stay in Anaheim, look to drive from the 5 north to the 91 west to the 110 north...
