We would like to take a long weekend to D.C. to see the sites but don't want to spend mucho dinero on a hotel room. Any suggestions for nice but cheaper hotels?

Your best bet is staying somewhere just outside the city and near a metro station. Most hotels in the City charge $15 to $25 a night just to park at their hotel. Also it's way more expensive to stay in the city too unless you can get a good deal on priceline or travelzoo.

I like staying at either the Crystal City, VA Marriott or Hilton and then ride the metro in for sightseeing.

If you really want to stay in DC itself, I suggest going on Hotline and checking out their deals. If you stay after Easter week and before Memorial day, you can usually get a really good deal on a 3 or 4 star.

Embassy suites Capital hill is a fav of mine, but we got a good deal on priceline for that one. Had free Breakfast, which was great.

Holiday Inn Capital Hill also runs specials from time to time and is clean and in a relatively safe neighborhood, close to metro.

2 places I will never stay at again were the Windsor Park Hotel and the Red Roof Inn on H St. Never again.

I've stayed at The Holiday Inn Capitol already. 550 C Street S.W.
Washington, DC 20024
(202) 479-4000

It was OK, not CRAZY expensive, but all DC hotel rates are a bit high, I think.

I've also stayed at the Loew's L'Enfant and really enjoyed it. I think the rates were comparable to the Holiday Inn. 480 Ll'Enfant Plaza SW, Washington, DC 20024 Both were convenient to the Metro.

Have a great time!

Thank you both. SO is away till the second week in June so we will be going either fall or next Spring. I appreciate your recommendations and am now, as we speak, going to look them up. Thanks again!

Another recommendation for the Holiday Inn on Capitol Hill. Not too outrageously priced, nice rooms, friendly and efficient staff. Plus it's in a really convenient location. We really enjoyed it :thumbsup2
