Anyone stayed in gasp a hotel lately ? Looking at a night near the Toronto zoo before back to school . My daughter hasn’t seen “her hippos” since feb and is going through withdraws .
Just the zoo we will grab takeout and bunker down for a night before we hit the zoo . I feel
Like outside early we should be ok .. and with masks as needed .
Any hotel chains anyone has stayed at that felt safe ? Would be greatly appreciated . Any that felt sketchy especially in that area ..
thanks crew

Just a thought I have no idea if anything is available right now.

I wish we aren’t tent people more ac people.. I just want ti know if anyone has stayed at a certain chain and felt they were doing a good job with covid practices .. I have my usual go to as we frequent the zoo every couple of months usually but I’m really nervous about hotels right now

I work for a hotel management company with about 10 different chains in the portfolio and they all have extensive COVID operating procedures in place.
Pick one and call and ask the front desk what their check in procedure is like, elevator policy, room assignment, mask policy, are they leaving rooms vacant for a certain period before cleaning and assigning to the next guest , What extra cleaning is being done in rooms, and cancellation policy in case you change your mind.
The hotel industry is hurting badly and they are doing everything possible to make guests feel safe.

https://hotelguides.com/hotels/ontario/ajax/213987.htmlthis seems to have suites and is rated high.
Kitchen in every suite.
9 miles west of the zoo.
I've stayed in this hotel several times in the past.....it's Very nice. There is also a Hilton Garden Inn across the parking lot....I've stayed there too. Normally I would select Homewood but that's because they do a nice breakfast and cocktail hour but I think those things have been Covid stopped. The HGI has a table service restaurant.

Yeah I am thinking Hotels need to change their amenities list
: large wide outdoor parking areas
: open table service breakfast/or quick service meal to go
: room rotation (unit is vacant for 12-24 hrs between use)
: super cleaning/hospital grade cleaners
: All bedding sanitized with special laundry sanitizer.
: 1 hour pool use /cap on limit of users
: outdoor picnic areas /frequently disinfected
: Outdoor style restaurants/BBQs
: contactless check in,,send key pad number/code to phone.
: free in room movies/ movie to go packs available for purchase (treats, popcorn, pop).
: Drive thru Tim Hortons or Starbucks or McDonald's nearby.
: No more yucky coffee pots and month old coffee--maybe bottled juices, bottled coffee and bottled water.
: enhanced A/C ,Heating air cleaners medical grade filters and etc.
Hugs
Mel

Hi, we just got back from a trip that included a hotel. We stayed in a Marriott that felt very safe. There is alot of changes however. No housekeeping, no breakfast room you can get a breakfast tray of cold items to go. No furniture in the lobby, Only 2 people or one family in the elavator at a time. Need to book a time slot for the pool or gym. Masks worn by staff and guests. It was fine, but the hotel rates are still high!

I will happily pay high Prices to feel safe. It’s one night just to sleep so amenities don’t matter like in a vacation.
I miss miss all the outdoor pools , I get our climate would mean no pools a lot if the time but I’m personally not comfy in an indoor pool atm,

We stayed in a hotel a couple of weeks ago. It wasn’t a chain so you probably wouldn’t have heard of the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel unless you are from B.C.
But I felt very safe. The hotel was at half capacity. Things were different from what it usually was. No housekeeping, bell service, afternoon tea, no spa services, no delivering anything to rooms. If you need something you go down to the front desk to pick up. We needed Tp. The reason they don’t stock extra roll in room is that when you vacate everything is thrown out.
The restaurants were on limited hours, no buffet of course. Hand sanitizer stands everywhere, signs stating one family per elevator. But with reduced capacity there was never anyone else at the elevator while we were there.
There were no Time limits on the 3 outside hot springs pools but with reduced hotel capacity there was no need. Everyone was able to space out. the 2 indoor pools were closed.

I had phoned and spoke with the hotel about their practices before we booked and felt comfortable with what they’re doing.

stayed in a hotel in banff. 5 nights. Was super tentative about it but was perfectly fine. One positive of Covid is less crowds. Never felt unsafe at any point. Banff will prob never be that quiet/sanitary again ;)

jumping into this thread, sorry for a little hijacking, what do people think about Airbnb? We desperately need to get away and since I'm still stuck in the middle of a brutal elimination diet I need a full kitchen.

I would contact the owner and ask what they are doing. We rented a cottage earlier in the summer. I really didn't think it through as much beforehand and had plans to do my own cleaning. Reality though: they had a max of 4 hours between when previous family left and when we checked in. And in a place with multiple bedrooms, two bathrooms, large kitchen, etc., there is no way that they are sanitizing every surface. Plus the dshes and stuff. I quickly realized on arrival that I wouldn't be either. That said, most experts don't believe surface transmission is a big worry.

I'm thinking of doing this as well, it's a 4 hour drive each way so for sure we need a hotel night, just wondering if we leave here early, and see the zoo all afternoon, then stay the night in the hotel and drive home the next day, or leave here later and do the hotel stay before we go to the zoo the next day. We've never been but I am assuming 6 or 7 hours of walking around will be about what we can manage. Just not sure I want to drive home after that! I don't think the hotels near by have the pools open sadly, that would make the evening more fun maybe.

I think if you go and give surfaces a clean and maybe take your own bedding and towels you will be fine. Like someone else mentioned they are now saying that the risk of contacting covid through surfaces is low. I would actually feel safer in a cottage/house types place then a hotel (mainly because of elevators and common areas).

You can pick a nice motel so you can drive and park your car right at your room door. There are quite a few outside of downtown core such as Scarborough and Markham. You don't need to unload all your luggage. You can just pick and take items that you need from the trunk. Also, you don't have to go through any hotel lobby or share elevator. If you are worried, you can leave the room window open as fresh air circulation will reduce the likelihood of any aerosol transmission from neighbour air ducts. Before you enter, you can send one adult into the room with mask and gloves. That person can wipe down all surfaces including door knobs, facuets, and remote controls with 70% alcohol.

I understand cheaper motels may have bed bugs. However, if you read Tripadvisor, you will see that high end 4-stair chain hotel resorts have also received reports of bed bugs. Also, if it is a choice between bed bugs vs COVID, most people will choose to avoid COVID.

We drove to a town nearby and stayed in a hotel with a pool. It was awesome, there was no one else there and we had the entire pool to ourselves. :thumbsup2 We never felt "unsafe" or worried about Covid, the chance of contracting it is so insanely low, the risk of dying from it even lower.. It was a great opportunity to get away from our house and enjoy some family time.

We have stayed in a cabin at a KOA, and have another stay booked in one as well for Thanksgiving. Feels much safer not sharing any common areas, has it's own kitchen and bathroom as well.

There has been NO cases documented anywhere in the world from touch contact. Yes, the virus can be still on a surface, but it's not enough for transmission.

Yep.
Also, I would point out as well that because of lockdown restrictions, a lot of hotels are dying. These places are barely able to stay afloat because of the mass amount of fear and panic. The chance you will even FIND Covid in a hotel that has been dead quiet since March is so slim. When we stayed at a hotel in June the staff was down to bare bones, we were the ONLY guests that entire week. The manager was going out of his way to make sure we had a great stay, even packing lunches for us and opening the pool past normal hours. It felt good to walk into a hotel and give them a big smile and just talk to them like human beings, rather than potential carriers of a virus. I'm not saying go lick the door handles, but I think we need to consider the true amount of risk present (and I understand that the risk factor may be higher for some than it is for others). Also consider, not one public health official that I know of has bothered to remind the public of some common sense measures in staying healthy beyond staying home, dousing yourself in hand sanitizer and masking up. Exercise, eating well, getting enough sleep, getting fresh air and keeping your anxiety low can also make a huge difference in staying healthy. Taking a relaxing break from the Covid insanity might actually be exactly what your immune system needs 💕

I think you just have to ask the questions about their practices. My daughter stayed in an air bnb a couple of weeks ago and said it was good.
The Hotel at Harrison we stayed at - housekeeping didn’t even enter the room for cleaning for 3 hrs after guests left. So I wouldn’t be comfortable with a 4 hr turn around.
We all need a getaway!
