My sister wants to go to Orlando with us, but not really with us. Both of our families are going during the same week, but are staying in different locations. She is going to purchase a hotel room at Pop Century. I was a little concerned (I think it's a bad idea) with her hotel choice because she is going with her DH and their two DDs, one is 12 and the other is 13.

Do you think the girls are a little too old to share a room with their parents? They are not small children anymore and they will need their space. My DH doesn't want to share a room with our DD9 because he says that she needs a certain amount of privacy as well, like changing and showering, etc. My sister is now feeling that a hotel room would not be best because she was not thinking about her DDs ages when she was planning. The last time they went to Orlando was when the girls were 7 and 8 and they stayed at Best Western.

What do you guys think?

We always chose the CR resort getting 2 rooms. Not because we were concerned for my dd's privacy, but because theres much more room. Sharing 1 bathroom to us is a pain, especially if we want to get an early start in the morning. There's 5 of us and although the CR does have large rooms, we felt cramped in 1 room. There's lots of options for your sister if she wants more space. She can get 2 connecting rooms at any of the resorts on site, downtown disney or off site. She also can rent out a condo. While we never stayed in one, from what I hear on these boards there beautiful and very spacious and can be alot cheaper than staying on site in 2 rooms.

Changing/showering can be done in the bathroom - there's a door.

Do you get a two room suite of some sort, or do you get two hotel rooms? I'd be nervous having my children in another hotel room with a separate access, even if the connecting doors between the rooms was open.

There are other options as mentioned above if your sister does not all want to stay in one room. She could do two connecting rooms at Pop, a condo off-site, a DVC villa on-site, a vacation house off-site.

However I really do not see what the problem would be to share a hotel room together with her DH & DD's while on vacation. Before the advent of so many "suite" type hotels, most families did just stay in one room while on vacation. For privacy there are robes, towels, and doors. :)

Will her budget be thrown way off if she has to get two rooms or a condo? If so I think one room at Pop will make a great trip.

I agree! We (DH,DW,DD,& DS) went on vacations every summer as I grew up and never had more than one room anywhere we went. I don't see the problem.

My DH and I have 2 DS's, 14 & 13. Our attitude is we spend so little time at the reort why pay for an extra room. Every trip the boys refuse to sleep in the same bed and actually argue about who gets to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor.
However if it is really a problem I noticed that when we were at the CBR there was a curtin that you could pull to seperate the bed area and the sinks. This offered more then enough room for changing in private or anything else. Hope this helps.princess:

We were a family of five - mom, dad, and us three kids. We traveled a lot and always had one hotel room. Mom and Dad in one bed, me and my sister in another bed, and my brother on a roll-away. We never did Disney, but we did travel all over US that way. I see absolutely no problem with the situation your sister has in mind. This is all we ever did, from the time we were little up through high school. Anything that needs to be done in private can be done in the bathroom.

Growing up and traveling in our family(mom, dad, and two dds), we always shared a hotel room w/o any problems w/privacy. Personally, I love having a separate bedroom now with my own family, but not unless it is part of an entire unit (suite, villa, house, etc.)...weird, maybe, but if we are at a hotel, I like having my kids in the room with me...feel more secure that way. Perhaps I will feel differently when they are older, but having traveled with my sister and parents all in the same room, I don't think I will mind.

I travelled with my parents in the same room till I got married. When I got married there were trips where my sister and husband stayed in the same room with my late husband and I.

It was only for a week, when we started to get sick of each other we went home.

It was a great way to save some money and we have the wonderful memories of vacations with the family.

I have always shared a room with my 3 children. I'm a grandma now but when my kids were young we traveled to WDW many times and traveled across America. We always "Shared a Room". The thought never crossed my mind to get 2 rooms. Not that I would have if it crossed my mind.

I will be taking my grandkids to WDW in Oct and staying @ the Pop Century with them in 1 room ages 12 and 9. We are not going to spend anytime in the room other than sleep and shower. We'll shut the bathroom door! :D

I recommended a condo or a villa for her family. The girls want to also bring along their best friend who is also 14 years old. One hotel room at Pop Century will not work in this case, not even a rollaway. She is looking into a villa offsite to save money.

Thanks for your responses.

This may as well have been our family too (except for the 3 kids are all girls). We made many a trip & spent nights in one room, 2 beds & a rollaway. Never gave it a second thought! We could not afford 2 rooms!! Boy have times changed, now dh & I always get another room (dd4 & dd 9mo), but we always connect (of course since the kids are so little). We dare doing a 2bed/2bath dvc at VWL & can't wait! We are too spoiled, but it was never a problem growing up & having 5 in one room!

DH and I took our grandkids (7 & 9) to Disney last January and shared a room with them ... and I'm going next month with my DD (29) and the grandkids and we'll be sharing a room at the WL ... it's easy enough to change clothes in the bathroom.

The orignal situation just changed....

Once you start bringing along unrealted female teenagers I would go for more space with some privacy.

Plus with 5 you are now over the PC room limit.
