Hotel Reward Points and ABD

Is it possible to collect hotel reward points when booked on an ABD? I am a Marriott Rewards member and was wondering if it was possible to collect points on my upcoming ABD to Central Europe since 2 of the 3 hotels are Marriott hotels (Prague and Vienna).

You can use your reward points number.

In the past, I have found that giving ABD your reward number doesn't always translate.

It's usually more effective to provide the hotel with the information upon arrival.

I tried to give the hotel in Sydney my rewards number, but the front desk said it couldn`t be added because the room was booked as a group. In Dublin, however, I believe it worked.

I believe you were given misinformation in Sydney.

I haven't heard of the hotel not accepting your rewards number..

I politely asked the Sheraton in Sydney if I could use my SPG Platinum status to get free internet access in the room and the answer was an emphatic "no". I even asked them to check with the duty manager and the answer was still no. Didn't ask about assigning our rewards number to the room in Prague or any other destinations as Starwood is the chain where I try to collect the most points and see the most benefits (we will be staying at the Excelsior Gallia {SPG Luxury Collection} on points in Milan before our Italy / Switzerland trip, but I digress).

I apologize. I forgot that Sydney is a Starwood Hotel.

I was speaking of Marriott.

My mistake.

I think it really depends on the hotel chain. Some say yes, others say no. I found the Intercontinental in Athens gave me IHG points, and, as Kevin says, Marriott will do it, too. Others have not. I figure it never hurts to ask!

Wow that is a shame they didn't let you take advantage of your status. I wonder if you had tweeted that or commented on their FB account what was taking place if they might have changed their tune. SPG points are the most valuable points and miles currency in my opinion. I am so relieved that the Chinese insurance company out bid Marriott. I was thinking that the value of those SPG points would tank with a Marriott merger. Still holding my breath to see how Marriott responds. FYI for anyone considering an SPG card they have their highest bonus offer ever (35K points) going on right now until March 30th. I think I'm going to have to add the SPG business card to my portfolio. 35K SPG points is too good to pass up!

The Fairmont in San Francisco allowed us to add our loyalty number to the booking and earn the points. I imagine each hotel chain will do things differently but it doesn't hurt to ask once you are there. For the life of me I can't remember where our pre-night stay in Budapest is with ABD for the river cruise. I know the post stay in Prague is a Marriott. I will ask if we can use our loyalty number once we are there. Crossing fingers.

My reservation says it's the Budapest Marriott Hotel. Don't know if that's true for all the cruises or not.
