Hi All

I have been looking on the Virgin website at 2008 holidays. I am looking to go with my boyfriend. It will not be our first time we have both been many times. We have always stayed in villas but this time we are going on our own and cant afford the car hire. So am looking at hotels with shuttle facilities to the parks. I have narrowed it down to a few and wondered if any of you had a favourite. (We are on a budget!) So it is out of:

Marriott Courtyard - Lake Buena vista
Grosvenor resort Disney (which I have read terrible reviews about)
Radisson Resort Celebration
Sheraton Safari Hotel

Also I have a special diet where I eat no gluten or dairy do you know if these hotels/ near by restaurants will be able to cater for me. I am most worried about the breakfasts, most UK hotels have soya milk but I dont know about the US???

If you are on a budget how about the Comfort Inn LBV. It might not win the best hotel prize but for value I don't think it can be beaten.

Admittedly we booked direct, but we only paid $39 a night (£20). You get a free continental breakfast (handy if on a budget), vouchers for free meals/beers in the bar and a welcome pack of goodies for money off at local stores etc.

Also does a shuttle to Disney, not so sure on Universal. We had a car so can't comment on schedules, realiabilty etc but it was always there when we headed to the parks in the morning.

Restaurants galore within walking distance and Downtown Disney just a short 5min cab ride away.

I don't even know if it's still in the Virgin brochure, it's been a few years since we booked a package but if it is, I would recommend at least looking at it.

We've stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott before, and would recommend it!
It has wireless internet and is within walking distance of DTD and Olive Garden!!

We have stayed at the Radisson Resort (thats nowhere near)Celebration
it was ok a few years since but I have read bad report recently, large pool is very cold not heated small one is heated.

As you say Grosvenor resort Disney gets bad reports all the time.

Sheration Safari sounds ok again a few bad reviews.

Now to the Marriott if its Virgin I suspect its the one in the link below as I think thats the only one Virgin do just now. If it is I don't know a lot about it but if its the other mentioned above on Palm Parkway then I would go there its our favourite hotel from all our list below. Going again in August for 25 nights.

What dates are you going? I know A few sites that are a lot better prices than Virgin. I have paid £25/night for August

Just a word of warning about this hotel, one side of it faces the I4 which is an extremely noisy road at night. I stayed there in 2000 and couldn't sleep very well because of all the noise, horns blaring, traffic which doesn't stop. However, people who have stayed on the car park side have been very happy and didn't suffer from noise problems. So if you did decide on this hotel specify the car park side.

Other than that we had no problems with the hotel, clean, quick to sort out any problems, ideal location for Disney, shopping centre close by.

We stayed at the Grosvenor for our honeymoon in sept 1999, this was one of the worst hotels we have stayed in for the money in which we paid. We now stay in a villa, havnt stayed in the other hotels mentioned.

I have replied to your special diet thread, but I forgot to mention, when I go for breakfast, I take my own soya milk in a small empty water bottle

We are just back after a long weekend at the Courtyard - Marriott on Vineland Ave. Big spacious rooms and bathrooms, pool area was good. We only eat in the hotel for breakfast. Free wired broadband in rooms.

Restaurants (walkable) - Bahama Breeze, really recommend this.
A few others, Landrys Seafood, a steakhouse that I can't remember the name of but we eat there and would do it again! Possibly a Golden Coral as well, but don't quote me on that!

Location, very close to Premium Outlet Mall so the main road outside got very busy at closing time. $10 (inc tip) taxi ride to DTD.

Would I stay again? Yes, I would even bring the kids.

BTW, while we were there they had an offer on for current guests to have a future 3 night stay for $129, as long as they had a look at the new hotel when then came back. Seemed a bit of a good bargain.

We have stayed at the Sheraton Safari. It was a really nice hotel - we had a free suite upgrade and the room was huge. It was very clean and modern, and for the money we paid, we were very impressed. It was about a 10 minute drive or so to Disney.

There were fridges in the rooms, so even if soya milk were a problem, you could keep some in there, but I would email the hotels directly about this.

It was located close to restaurants, and the pool was really nice. Also the beds were amazing - super comfortable. The hotel website is really good, and shows a good representation of what the hotel is really like.

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari, a couple of years ago, and got a free suite upgrade too

I'd definitely recommend it.
As Kristie says it's within walking distance to restaurants and, when we were there, a Winn Dixie Supermarket

We second the Comfort Inn LBV , we have stayed at Springhill Suites right next door to The Courtyard at Marriott Village and it's a lovely location and rooms are wonderful with local restaurants and a pharmacy close by although I'm not sure if they charge for the shuttle service where as the drivers at the Comfort Inn rely on tips

I think the only problem with the Comfort Inn is the people walking past your windows all the time and lack of a balcony - other than that it's fine. The time I stayed there they coudn't do enough for us.

Having stayed in LBV about six or seven times we usually now end up in the Best Western, although to be honest I don't know if that's available with Virgin at the moment?

To echo other posts the Grosvenor is terrible, it totally ruined one of my mum and dads holidays - I'd steer well clear.
