We are looking for a clean, decent hotel closest to Universal without being in the park itself (Can't afford the onsite). What do you recommend? We were thinking about the Best Western Universal Inn. Anyone stay there recently?
There will be 4 of us and I don't want to be crammed in but don't need a luxury suite either!
Thanks!

Try Doubletree, Holiday Inn, Hyatt Place. All the hotels on Major Blvd. are close but the Best Western is one of the furthest in that area. You can get much closer.

There are also a few on Windhover which is still closer than the BW.

I do not recommend the Best Western. Then again we had a pet friendly room so that could have something to do with it.

The Hampton Inn is my sister's favorite.

We will be staying at the Hampton Inn South of Universal. Anyone have feedback on this property? It got good reviews on tripadvisor.

Is it on Kirkman? Or Kirkland... kirk something

If so, my sister has told me 100x that it has "Amazing! Beds, Pillows, and oh the conforters! It was SO clean, you don't even understand! Ohh and the beds. The breakfast was good too. Oh and the beds were SO confortable..." I never heard the end of my "crappy" choice.

The Hyatt Place Universal has HUGE rooms--2 queens and then a large area with a sleeper sofa, table, fridge, etc. The tv was huge and we had free internet and continental breakfast. We walked to Universal is 10-15 minutes, and there was also a free shuttle.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn near Universal for 2 nights this trip, we got it for $45/night using Priceline.

Yes it is the one on Kirkman rd. Thanks for the feedback.

I like the Holiday Inn Maingate/Universal myself. In my pre-AP days, I could walk over to Universal and avoid their parking fee, plus the Holiday Inn itself has free parking and no resort fee. And crossing Kirkman on foot really wakes you up in the morning. ;)

This is great to hear. We are staying here our last night in Orlando. Got a great rate from TravelZoo of $50.00 for two queen beds.

We just got back and stayed at laquinta inn on major blvd. It was just ok for me. Staff was friendly but hotel itself was kinda old and musty. I would stay at holiday inn or hampton inn next time.

We are staying at the Doubletree at the Entrance to Universal. Haven't been yet, so I can't give a review, but on the maps it looks to be the closest non-Universal owned hotel.

I have stayed at this doubletree and its a nice hotel and it and Holiday Inn and suites at main gate to universal along with the Hyatt Place universal are the closest to universal and they all share a shuttle to universal :thumbsup2

I've stayed at the Hawthorne Suites near Universal...loved it! Free hot breakfast, managers reception in the evening, large rooms that sleep 6, 5 minutes from Universal.

Definitely will stay there again!
