Our flight leave at 7am from Philly, which means we should get there at 5am. Which would mean we would have to leave by 3:30am (we are about an hour from Philly, but plan on extra just in case).

So rather than not sleeping, DH decided to get a hotel the night before. We would need a decent hotel near the airport, in a decent area.

Thanks!

First, we've used Ramada in Essington twice, minutes from PHL. Some have complained about older, 'worn' rooms, we thought ours were fine both times and we had a nice Happy Hour in their lounge both times. Also, we got 14 days of free secure parking with the one night stay and their airport shuttle was reliable.

That said, the last two Disney flights out of PHL for us were at 7 am and our strategy was to drive straight to Winner Parking from Wilkes-Barre, a 2 hr 20 min drive. There, for less than $7 per day with internet coupon, they drive you to the airport, drop you at your terminal and securely park the car. For an extra $10, total, not per day, they pick you up in your own car within minutes and you just drive off, no return to their lot.

So... we get to bed early the night before in our own bed, wifey doesn't sleep well the first night away anyway, hit the road a little after 2 am, we're at Winner with plenty of time to spare and we're eating breakfast at our gate without a rush, no check in, check out, catch shuttle etc.

FWIW, we've used AirTran the last 2 PHL flights and next March we'll be flying them non-stop out of Allentown.

Thanks!

We will be flying AirTRan as well....I wasn't aware they flew non stop from ABE...we are 15 mins from ABE!!!!

Happy hour is something I haven't seen since the boys were born!

I'm flying out of ABE in September! There is not a big selection of flights but it fit my schedule and the price was right($62 each way). I'm flying down on a Sunday and coming back on a Friday. When I booked there was 1 flight down at 5:40 pm and one flight back at 1:20 pm, these both are direct flights. Since I've booked my floght down has now been moved to 6:08 (no big deal) and they've added 2 early morning flights, both leaving at 6:00 am (they are really the same flight) but then when you get to Atlanta the next departure times are different 10:11 am and 12:30 pm.
They've added more days per week that they depart too, originally my plan was to return on Thursday but there were no flights that day, now there is. So that's a good sign.
I am not a big fan of Airtran, because they change their flights so often, but ABE and PHL are both about the same distance, but a lot less hassle getting to ABE, so I am hoping to keep ABE in mind for the future.

I have used Priceline "Name Your Own Price" three times for hotels near PHL. I have paid between $55 and $75, including all the Priceline fees (about $15 for the fees). The $75 was for the Renaissance. They didn't charge us for 8 days of parking. The $55 was for the Sheraton Four Points. They would of charged is $12 per day to park, so the morning of the flight, I dropped DH, boys, and luggage at the airport and I drove to Winner Airport parking. I was back at the airport in under 25 minutes.

I always bid for at least a 3.5 star on Priceline. If you want more bidding guidance, just let me know.
