Looking for a safe, clean place to stay the night before near the San Diego Port, say something along the lines of a Hyatt place, for a reasonable price.
Any suggestions?

The Wyndham Bayside is across the street from the Port and they have a deal by which, if you're driving, you can pay to park your car there while on the cruise as well.

We plan on parking there, but the Whyndam is a lot more expensive than a Hyatt place

That is about what you will pay to be near port. If you are willing to be out a ways, you have more options for less.

We have stayed at The Springhill Suites. It is the building with yellow in the above picture.

I second Marriott Springhill Suites. It was very nice and a very short walk to the pier.

Marriott Springhill Suites looks like it might be closer to what we're looking for - thanks =)

Here's a shot taken from the ship while in port, the Wyndham is on the left with the blue paint on the side.View attachment 419742
The Wyndham is also the building (with the outside elevator) just in front of the bow of the ship in Princess Shmoo's pic - that's the building we stayed in on our last PC cruise! :-) Wyndham has 2 or 3 buildings/towers of rooms

The night before we sailed on the Wonder, we stayed at the Marriott Springhill Suites San Diego Downtown/Bayfront back in May of this year, (2019).

Clean, nice rooms. Complimentary breakfast had a good selection of food.

Very easy walk across the street to the Pier, even while rolling our suitcases with us.

Also, since we arrived the day before - we spent time walking around the area. The Santa Fe Rail Depot is close by and has beautiful architecture. And walking down the Embarcadero is always interesting!

The four hotels immediately across Harbor Drive from the B Street Cruise Terminal are:
- Hotel InterContinental San Diego
- SpringHill Suites Bayfront
- Residence Inn Bayfront
- Wyndham Bayside
They are all great hotels but you pay for the proximity to the ship. The SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn are part of the BRIC and use their parking garage, while the Wyndham has its own. Not sure who the Hotel InterContinental uses for their parking garage.

I'll add another vote for the SpringHill Suites. Nice rooms, good complimentary breakfast and it's less than a 5 minute walk to the terminal.

We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express 1140 N. Harbor Drive. It is a mile away but they have a free shuttle. Not sure about leaving a car though, you would have to check..
Probably not what you're looking for, we just found everything on the waterfront way way way way overpriced.
This is an older property, but I don't think I have had better service anywhere. Free cocktail hour in the evening, free breakfast in the morning.

We always stay in the Gaslamp district. It's about a 10 minute walk or $5 uber. Our main hotel is the Horton Grand. Nice little boutique place with lots of dining and bar options for dinner.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn, it was a few blocks away but not bad. This was after the WBPC and we had two suit cases and to carry on’s to drag with us.

We enjoyed our stay at the Wyndham Bayside in 2017 and are staying there again this November. Clean, close to the terminal and lots of stuff within walking distance.

We used Hilton points to stay at the Hampton. Free breakfast and free shuttle included.
