This will be our first trip to DL-2 adults over 50-no kids.
We have been to DW several times-once w/o our kids.

We will be doing a 3 day hopper and staying for 7 nights. Also doing the LA/Hollywood Experience Tour and possibly one other tour (TBD).

The full 7 nights will be at the same hotel. Choices are mostly moderate, with the exception of the Ramada Maingate because of the closeness to the parks.

Some of the other choices that I don't see too much feedback on are the Hotel Menage & the Cortona Inn and Suites. They seem to get pretty good reviews on Tripadvisor and are reasonably priced. I already have the Fairfield and Candy Cane Inn on my list. We would really prefer to walk to the park and back. Can't afford to stay on property.

We really won't be in the room much, just to sleep and shower, hopefully to use the pool once or twice.

TIA

I haven't stayed there yet (we are also traveling in 2013), but friends, my husband, and I will be staying at the Hojo when we go to DLR in March. I was originally off-put because it's such a family-oriented hotel, but we decided to stay in the Delxue rooms overlooking the pool (which appear to be somehwat quiet/secluded), and its high recommendations from DISers swayed me. OK, I lied - the adorable YouTube videos the hotel has up also swayed me.

I was kind of gung-ho about the Candy Cane for a while due to the shuttle and the free breakfast, but having Mimi's muffins nearby and staying someplace designed by the same architect who did the Disneyland Hotel (hello, retro chic!) convinced me.

Hope that helps!

Menage would be a long walk. Doable, but longer than what I would want to do after a full day in the park. I would not consider the Cortona to be walkable. Could you walk it? Yes, but I dont think you'd want to!

I've stayed at the CCI and the Fairfield. I would stay at either one again, but prefer the CCI out of the two.

If you need walking distance then choices are more limited and prices higher. Are you looking for budget, suite, resort or?

Hotel Menage is a bit far to walk for many. You have to walk along the I-5 overpass. Some don't mind. I didn't care for this hotel myself. Rooms are nice, large, comfy beds etc. but appears they took a motel style room and simply added a few pieces of trim to make it look nicer. The outside decor is lacking to me. Very motel'lish. Pool area can be very loud late at night. Rooms facing I-5 will have constant traffic noise. Parking is $15 but almost all resorts in walking distance charge for parking. This hotel was a Holiday Inn for several decades. Its not a bad hotel but we got it on Hotwire for $70 which is a good deal. It does tend to cater to older visitors with its bar, restaurant and more of an adult pool area.

We've also stayed at the Hilton, Red Lion, Crowne Plaza and other south Harbor resorts. All are very nice. Those hotels aren't in short walking distance but some are easy walk to Disney's Toy Story lot for free shuttle or ART shuttles are available.

We don't go back and forth to hotel during the day so lately we prefer to stay 5 miles or so away where resorts are often 1/2 the cost and free parking. Some have their own shuttles to Disney or we drive our own car.

We really like the Hilton and the DoubleTree that are part of the Convention Center complex/block. You can walk to both, although after a full day sometimes it's nice to take the Toy Story shuttle and just walk a block. We're in Hilton's frequent stay club so those are what we usually go with. The Fairfield that is one block in the opposite direction isn't bad either. It's cheaper and has recently redone their rooms with flat-panel tvs. That one is definitely in walking distance.

We are looking for budget to moderate.

I think after researching the Hotel Menage a little further and checking it out on the map it's way to close to the Interstate. One thing we are going to need is sleep at night.

So basically, I will continue researching. We may also get the ART pass. :coffee:

We went to Embassy Suites South in 2009 for our 20th anniversary and loved it. You can see my review in my sig. It is too far to walk so we drove and parked at DLR. But you could also take ART. We haven't been back because we decided we like staying walking distance so we could come back for a quick afternoon nap.

I've done the walk from Cortona, and I tend to agree with you. One round-trip was enough; don't think I'd want to walk this twice a day.

BUT - the Cortona is pretty much across the street from the Toy Story lot. I haven't done it myself, but lots of folks here recommend walking to Toy Story and taking the bus. If it's as easy as they say, Cortona could be a good choice. I was impressed with this motel - spacious clean rooms, big pool, breakfast. For the right price, I think this could be a good alternative.

Fairfield folk here. Easy walk and restaurantwise close to the 3 M's....Mcdonalds, Millies, and Mimi's. I like to have some place to go early, like 6 am to do internet and have coffee and McD's fits the bill. We like to do Millies for breakfast...large servings that can be shared.
