Hotel Horror Stories-- Let's Share

More funny/weird than truly "horrific" ...

This happened to my mom & grandmother at a Sheraton hotel in Cairo.

They were in their room watching TV when my mom saw "something" falling down through the window. So she goes to the window and a few seconds later a pillow is falling down, apparently thrown from a room on a higher floor. She thought it was funny, probably some kids playing & they didn't intend for the thing to go out the window.

Then it's a lamp.

DM calls the front desk & informs them of what's going on,they tell her they're sending someone upstairs.
In the next few minutes a couple of chairs, another lamp and a bedside table all take the plunge.

They can hear a HUGE commotion upstairs, someone at the front desk calls and say that all guests must remain in their room for the time being and they will call back as soon as it's safe again for them to leave.

DM & Granny thought it was hilarious. It went on for a little while longer until the police came in,broke down the door & arrested the guy. They were never told what made him snap! :confused3

The Hawaiian Inn in Daytona Beach this past June. We arrived after a week in Disney, and we were about 30 minutes early. We were told our room wasn't quite ready, come back in an hour. We noticed that there were fans everywhere in the lobby, and it was extremely hot, but we didn't think too much about it. So we leave to get groceries, come back a little over an hour later with our groceries, ice cream and all, and still our room is not ready. What am I supposed to do, I ask? Not their problem. Unfortunately the room was prepaid from Hotel Kingdom (which gave it 4 stars), so I couldn't get my money back at that time. We took the cooler out of the trunk, bought ice, and put our groceries in there. Waited and waited in the hot, muggy lobby. We finally got in our room 3 1/2 hours after the supposed check in time. The elevator to our room looked and felt like it was held together by masking tape, but we finally got in our room. Of course, it looked nothing like the photos, but we decided we could stay there for a couple of days. Wondered where the air conditioner was as it was steaming hot....they didn't mention that the air conditioning in the whole building was broke! But hey, they gave everyone a box fan! They charged us for a wall safe, I called and asked where it was, turns out we didn't have one, but was still charged for it. By this time we just laughed, what else could we do! But hey, at least we didn't have a bat in the room!

I have stayed at many motel, hotels in the westen part of the US. One of the worst was in Elko Nevada. First the room smelled of disinfectant, the toilet did not flush AND the train ran RIGHT behind the motel. I mean RIGHT behind. Oh and by the way I think it ran somthing like every 15 minutes. This was maybe 35 yrs ago and I was a little kid. Elko only had two motels at the time. I think we were on our way to some national park like Yellowstone or Bryce Canyon.

In Florida the WORST place I ever stayed was LIKI TIKI. The place was dirty and and a dump. They treated us like cattle (they brought us down on a timeshare deal so wouldn't you think they wanted us to experience the best?). The room was DISGUSTING. We were in a one bedroom with a pull out couch. The mattress had stains on it some of which were indentifiable as urine but some were of unknown origin. There were holes in the wall and tons and tons of mosquitos everywhere. It was gross. When we went on the timeshare tour the salesman said , "So how do you like this place," and I replied, " I HATE it and I would not buy a timeshare here if you offered me a million dollars." I think he knew he was not going to make a sale. While he appologized, he said if he had known he could have changed my room. NO! Supposedly the place was booked and judging from the filthy lobby and the tons of people waiting in line to check in it was.
The scary part was that my husband had thought about booking the place for the two weeks of our vacation not just the 4 day stay which was part of the deal. We finished our stay at Wyndham Palms(now Mystic Palms) and it was like going from a tenament to a mansion. Oh and by the way I wrote to LIKI TIKI to complain and really got a nasty kiss off letter.

From now on we stay ONLY in Sheraton, Wyndham, Marriott or Hilton b/c at least I KNOW if I have a problem heads will roll if not at the resort level then at the corporate level should my room be disgusting.

Our worst experience was a bed and breakfast at a place called Barmouth in Wales. We went for a long weekend as money was tight and if anyone has seen Fawlty Towers with John Cleese this place was worse.

The guy and his wife were really creepy - he kept rubbing his hands and licking his lips all the time. The shared bathroom was downstairs and when I came out after taking a shower he was outside the door rubbing and licking. He said he was checking that I was ok and did I need a hand? EEEWWW!

The room smelt like an old people's home, the bedding was really old and brushed cotton. My DBF has a number one GI Joe haircut and kept sticking to the brushed cotton pillowcase like it was velcro! The windows were absolutely filthy and the kettle and mugs were stained and sticky. The tv was black and white. There were stains all over the carpet and in certain places our feet stuck to it.

The wife was really weird too. She had wrinkled stockings on with a short crimplene dress and an apron that was once white. Her make up was absolutely amazing, the brightest blue eyeshadow and pink lipstick with a bright orange face. Her hands were filthy. They asked if we wanted breakfast the next morning - we said no. The next morning we told them that we had received a call and had a family emergency and had to leave.

Gross, gross, gross!!

Enjoying the thread!! I once did a back-packing trip through France and Germany and had a couple of places were I slept with the bed wedged up against the door!!

I arrived in Paris, near Gare du Nord, and found what looked like a reasonable small hotel. As I checked in, they kept asking "just you" and looking over my shoulder, I kept saying "Yes, just me and my backpack" looking around to see why they were looking over my shoulder. After going out for dinner, I returned to the hotel to see a number of prostitutes checking in with their clients. A few guys stared at me - in a not too platonic way, including one on my corridor as I went to my room. You can guess where the bed went that night!!

Mine actually begins with a house rental. This was in Clearwater Beach Florida. My sister Donna, my two nieces, my one niece's fiance, my husband and I were sharing a rental house while visiting Clearwater for a wedding. My sister rented the house & we split the cost. It's about 9pm when we arrive- its dark and we're all tired. DS opens the house & we go in. Seems fine but its a bit warm so we try to put on the air. Appartently the air only works upstairs? One of the compressors is not working? Okay- as long as we're cool to sleep we'll deal with it in the morning.

DNiece and fiance go upstairs and she goes to the bathroom. Dsis and I are in the Kitchen when we hear blood curdling screams. Of course we run up- Dniece is on toilet and a palmetto bug is running all over the bathroom. Personally I thought it was amusing. Her fiance kills the bug and I explain that its florida- bugs happen.

DH and I go to our room and turn the TV on- except nope- TV doesn't work- apparently the cable bill has not been paid? We go downstairs and Dniece's fiance is trying to calm niece down explaining that Palmetto bugs are attracted to water- thus the bathroom. At that point he looks at Dsis and there is a Palmetto bug running accross the back of the couch where she is sitting. After much screaming we run back to the cars to find a hotel for the night. The emergency number for the home is a message.

We find the Bay Palms motel and get a few rooms. Disaster averted. The next morning we go to the beach- sis is still calling the house rental company. About 3pm we head back to the motel. Unfortunately we can't go in- apparently a man is trying to jump out a window? The police are there and we are not allowed to access the room. Guess we're going to dinner with sand up our you know whats- oh and tonight is the rhearsal dinner. We go to Walmart and buy some cheap clothes and thats how we went to the dinner. Actually Dsis went to our cousin's house and showered- but I had no time for that.

The rest of the stay was uneventful.

A few years ago we were coming home from Orlando, and decided just to drive until we got tired and then stop. We stopped at the South Carolina welcome center and got one of those coupon books. There was a Ramada in Florence that was cheap ($45/nt) that included "free breakfast" and it said "newly renovated".
We pulled in the parking lot, there was a large dumpster full of old carpet, etc. in the corner of it. Place looked "ok" but nothing to write home about.
Walked in, girl at counter was a younger version of Flo from Mel's Diner. I don't know how she kept her wad of gum from falling out of her mouth while she was talking, or how she could write with the long fingernails (more like claws) she had glued on.
Checked in, she gave us our key card, gave us 2 coupons for "free" breakfast at the dinky mexican restaurant next door, and told us since it was 2 adults and 2 kids the kids would eat free but we would have to pay.
Drove around to the side of building, found our room, opened the door, yuck. It had new carpet but nothing more. I told my kids not to even bring their suitcases in. I walked in the bathroom, there was a terrible overhwhelming smell of urine, candy wrappers on the floor and several "hairs" (I will leave what kind to the imagination).
I turned around and said no way am I spending the night here.
Went back to front desk and checked out 13 minutes after check in. The girl didn't act the least bit surprised. She didn't even apologize.
We drove about 1/2 mile down the street to the Hampton Inn, I walked in and told the desk clerk the story then handed him our HHonors credit card. He shamed me by saying "you should know better than to stay anywhere else but a Hilton property", LOL. I told him that after that experience, trust me I would not. In the end we paid less than $10 more, got a NICE room and FREE breakfast for all 4 of us. Less learned............
Everytime I see a Ramada sign I think of that place and it gives me the chills.

You just brought back some bad memories!! When we moved down to Orlando we stopped at this hotel for the night. It was the only place that would take dogs and we had our dog Jack with us since we were moving down. The place was just creepy and gross. I slept on my clothes and in my clothes so I wouldn't touch anything on the bed and used my own pillow. I definitely did not feel safe there!

I feel so good about staying at the Ramada near MCO right now... :scared:

I am :rotfl: while reading this thread, it's hilarious!

My incident took place this past January at the All-Star Sports. I was traveling with my sister's family (three adults, four kids) so we got adjoining rooms. We were originally supposed to be in the Music resort but something happened to our reservation and they screwed up. It took nearly an hour to find a place for us w/ adjoining rooms. Finally, they found the spot at Sports.

We got to our rooms and I had to use the restroom. I go into the bathroom and notice there is poop smeared EVERYWHERE (wall, toilet seat, etc...). I was the first person to go into the room so I knew it was there even before we checked in. It was so disgusting! I immediately ran out and called housekeeping and then the front desk to complain. WE only got a very pathetic, "Sorry about that..."

I was very disappointed with the un-Disney-like attitude we got during that experience.

Yeah, I had the same wonderful un-disney attitude when I was told I needed to sleep on bedbugs the first night of my stay @Port Orleans Riverside. "We will move you in the morning".
They did everything they could to try to make me stay in that room.
I was moved that same night, but only after I went nutz on the manager.

Shameful service. :sad2:

Might I ask: what were the manager's reasons for not moving you that night? Did s/he figure that once you realized that the bed bugs weren't an issue you'd stay with them the rest of the week? Like a value-added service?

She just kept telling me there wasn't any room. 100% full.
After saying for the 100th time, me and my family were not sleeping 1 night on bed bugs. I then asked to be moved to another property.

I was put on hold for a few mins. Then all of a sudden there was a room available in another building! So, magic does happen at WDW! :rotfl:

I had a problem back in 2001 with ASSP. When my son (who was 5 at the time) and I checked in, the room was dirty. The room had never been cleaned when the last guests checked out. There were dirty towels on the floor and the garbages were all completely full. I called the front desk and they were supposed to be sending housekeeping over right away. I waited for a while and nobody showed up....so I went out and found housekeeping down the way from my room. When I tried to explain the situation and tell them that I needed it cleaned they said okay. We left the room and came back about later and it still wasn't cleaned! They had com in and dumped the garbage, but that was it! I had to call the front desk about 3 more times before they took care of it finally. :confused3
I have never had any other problems like that at any other Disney resort since.
