I wouldn't worry about the bed bugs. If you follow the steps to prevent bed bugs you should be good. For example you should bring a flashlight with you and check your room before you bring your luggage into it. This applies to ANY hotel room at ANY hotel you check into. Whether or not you've seen reports at that particular hotel, you should always check. If you find them, report to the front desk and ask for another room. Hotels are pretty paranoid about bed bugs, I would imagine they would accommodate you or even give you an upgrade, sometimes to another (better) hotel if they have no more vacancy themselves. I always check and have yet to find them. I am pretty paranoid about bed bugs myself, but with using all the precautions I have yet to run into a problem. I also follow the advice of placing all dirty clothes inside a large plastic ziplock baggie before bringing them into my house and then washing and drying all the clothes inside immediately upon return, whether I suspect bed bugs or not, I do this every time. If you google "bed bug advice for travelers" you should come up with some good tips and advice.
Oh and I also use Priceline and got two hotels, 3 star, for $55 a night recently. But it's true that you never know what you're going to get!
