We've usually used Priceline for our hotel needs and had great success in the DLR area. But after reading some of the recent hotels people have gotten through Priceline (even 3.5 star) I'm a little nervous. Mostly because the issue of bed bugs seems to have gotten pretty bad in the past few years (at least it seems like I hear about way more). I just don't know if I should go ahead with Priceline or spend more and know what I'm getting. Of course you never know for sure, but if I see a hotel review mention bed bugs there is no way I will stay there!

I'd love to get one of the nicer 4 star hotels, but after adding in parking charges, not so sure. Has anyone gotten a 4 star lately through Priceline? What was the bid?

Also, does anyone know what hotel near DLR has had the most recent refurb? The newer the better!

Bed bugs...EWWW!

Growing up, my family stayed wherever was cheapest along the DL "strip". So I've stayed at quite a few DL hotels, never on site though....

When I started traveling with my own family, we always stay at the HoJo. It's clean, if a little dated...within walking distance (although it is a little further out then most other hotels), has 2 great pools - one of which is the pirate themed water play area for kids which DS just adores! Mimi's restaurant is super yummy, excellent value priced & right next door and finally....with the Entertainment Card discount, the rates just can't be beat! Price is $59/night for a King room or a room with 2 double beds.

I use Priceline all the time for car rentals and choose the "name your own price" feature. But for a hotel....I NEED to know exactly what I'm getting. So I would always choose to go that route but that's just me personally....:goodvibes

I got the Holiday Inn and Suites Anaheim for $51/Night+taxes/fees on Saturday May 12th and a couple weeks before got the Travelodge Anaheim International for $45/night+tax/fees both through Priceline. I would NOT recommend that Travelodge. It is very unclean and disgusting, however the HI was VERY nice! Hope that helps!

Which HI was it (Walnut or Manchester)? How many stars were they on Priceline? Thanks!

The Walnut HI is my go to when not staying on site...nice place. I have always stayed on points but do know that they aggressively accept price line bids when they have occupancy and hear of great deals there all the time!

Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about the bed bugs. If you follow the steps to prevent bed bugs you should be good. For example you should bring a flashlight with you and check your room before you bring your luggage into it. This applies to ANY hotel room at ANY hotel you check into. Whether or not you've seen reports at that particular hotel, you should always check. If you find them, report to the front desk and ask for another room. Hotels are pretty paranoid about bed bugs, I would imagine they would accommodate you or even give you an upgrade, sometimes to another (better) hotel if they have no more vacancy themselves. I always check and have yet to find them. I am pretty paranoid about bed bugs myself, but with using all the precautions I have yet to run into a problem. I also follow the advice of placing all dirty clothes inside a large plastic ziplock baggie before bringing them into my house and then washing and drying all the clothes inside immediately upon return, whether I suspect bed bugs or not, I do this every time. If you google "bed bug advice for travelers" you should come up with some good tips and advice.

Oh and I also use Priceline and got two hotels, 3 star, for $55 a night recently. But it's true that you never know what you're going to get!

There's that price again! How are you getting a price of $59 a night for the Hojo's? I've only ever seen prices at 100+. How do you go about getting such a low rate there?

Great advice! Thank you!

Has anyone gotten a 4 star through Priceline in the DLR area? Wondering what those have gone for.

Even the Grand Californian has received the odd report of bed bugs so it can happen anywhere.

Call the hotel and ask for in house reservations then ask about the entertainment rate. If its available you will need to pick up an entertainment card prior to arrival. This also works with an AP.

They have only certain dates available at that price. They maintain an availability calendar on their website, and you can keep an eye on that to check if your dates have become available.

Where have you seen reports on bed bugs in the hotels near DLR?

I was looking at the reviews of hotels that people had won through Priceline on biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com and saw that the tripadvisor review for Embassy Suites Anaheim South recently had a bed bug report.

Also on the Bed Bug Registry.

If you click on the red dots in the map in the link above there are other hotels. The website doesn't always load properly though.

Ugh, I don't know why I read these. I think I'll just sleep in my car. :scared1:

If you are paranoid use hotwire or lastminutetravel instead where it is easy to figure out which hotel you are getting. We just stayed at the Red Lion for $50 through priceline and I think it's nicer than the HOJO.

We've had great luck with priceline- never paid more than $65 for a 3.5+ star. We've stayed at 3 of the Garden Grove places: Doubletree (our best shuttle experience), Courtyard and Marriott Suites (our fave rooms!) We used to stay at Park Vue all the time, but now after staying in these nicer places, those right across from DLR seem sooo old and shabby.

I know, I really don't like old and shabby.:rotfl2:

I think it's worth it to me to stay a bit further and have to shuttle or drive than stay at one of the ones right across from DLR that are run down.
