Hotel help - under $150/night

I’m planning a trip for November 2019 - are there any hotels within walking distance (10 min walk) that will be under $150/night? We stayed at HOJO 2 years ago but with the horrible exchange rate (coming from Canada), it’s not in the budget this time. Our top priorities are walking distance and clean. I’ve been considering Castle Inn, but wondering if there are any others I’m missing. Most seem to be in the $180-$190/night range. We will be staying 5+ nights, so any hotels that have extended stay rates would be great. I know Tropicana and Camelot do, but their rates are still coming up as $179 with the discount. Thanks!

How many people in the room? The standard room at the Candy Cane Inn would be right around your price point, but they are the smallest of the room types.

Seems like a lot of those 150.00 places across Harbor from a few years ago have all pushed up to that 175.00-200.00 range.

The Quality Inn on Manchester is a value accommodation that is still within walking distance, but they are obviously older and a bit run down with no hot tub. Motel 6 is on the verge of walking distance, but usually has pretty low rates. The Alpine Inn is also within walking distance and has pretty low rates.

If you have stayed previously at the Tropicana, they do offer a returning guest rate that may help. They are still my favorite "budget" hotel because I love the store on site, the pool and their giant hot tub.

2 adults and 2 kids (4 & 7). I should have mentioned, we need 2 queens (I noticed some standard rooms come with 2 doubles).

Would it work out for the budget to stay further away and use Uber/Lyft to get to/from the parks? (Using Uber/Lyft every day might be cheaper than paying for parking.) Or you could stay walking distance to the TS lot and use the free shuttles there. That would give you more flexibility and choice with hotels. You could invest in travel boosters (e.g. Mifold or Bubblebum -- lowest prices on Amazon so far) to make the Uber/Lyft rides work. This could lower your hotel rates significantly, especially if you look at hotels in Garden Grove. Once you remove the "Anaheim Resort District" from the hotel name/address, rates go down. Just one mile away from the parks can make a big difference in rates. After SWGE opens, finding low hotel rates isn't going to be so easy, so do what you can to make this work for you!

I ran a few random nights in Nov at Desert Inn and saw 2Q rooms at $119. That's before tax and fees, but still a great deal.

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I ruined it by by staying so close last time though, I don’t think I can give up that convenience! We will go back to the hotel mid day for naps, plus will have a stroller, so taking shuttles/other transportation seems like a huge hassle. And my 4 year old still needs a full car seat in a car. I *can* up my budget a bit, it will just mean cutting back on other things.

I did some searching last night and found some good rates for best western stovalls and best western pavilions on Expedia ($135ish). Would these be good choices? I know the walk to the parks might be a bit longer, but then we could cut through the hotel to make it a bit shorter at the end of the night right?

It's safe, clean, and basic. No micro and no coffee maker in the room (available in the lobby), and you pay a few bucks extra for a mini-fridge. No charge for parking.

I wouldn't consider the M6 'walking distance' though, it's around 1/2 - 3/4 mile. At least it's not walking distance for me! Uber is $5.35 (as of a year ago, without tip) each way which works out cheaper than the ART if there is more than one person in your party. But since you need a carseat, the ART shuttle might be the best for you. It's really easy to use.

Hotwire has some good ones starting at $80 a night that are within walking distance if you will use their Hotrate deals and let them pick.

Hint: if you sign up for an account and log in on a mobile device through their App, they will usually give a lit of four hotels and it will be guranteed to be one of those four hotels, very handy for figuring out walking distance.

If you don't want hotrates, they have some nice rooms starting at around $100/night.

Note: All prices listed in this post are in USD, also you may get different prices from the Canadian Hotwire site that may be more favorable to you. So check on the Canadian site, then open an icognito window and check the U.S. site as well.

Also, another option is to stay at the hotels near the Toy Story lot, walk into the Toy Story lot and use their free shuttle. This works really well for the Best Western that is right there.

There are also a few hotels down that way that offer free shuttles to the parks, so that may be another viable option. Just watch out for resort fees.

^^This. I find that with a little research and comparing amenities of hot rate/express deals vs. standard rate hotels on both Hotwire and Priceline, it's pretty easy to figure out what hotel you will get. I haven't been wrong yet!

PLEASE do your research if you go with Hotwire. I have a friend who went that route (against my advice) and ended up at Studio 6 over Christmas. After having several drug dealers and prostitutes knock on her door all night she contacted Hotwire, got a refund and moved her kids to a different hotel at 3am. Not a fun way to start a trip! I'm sure great deals can be found, but do your homework before you bid.

I've used Hotwire in Las Vegas many times without any issues but in the two times I've used them in Anaheim, the supposedly 3 star hotels were dumps. I wouldn't use them in Anaheim if walking distance is your priority. Also I wouldn't get anything less than a 4 star hotel with them in Anaheim.

Yes, you definitely need to do your homework and carefully match up neighborhoods/amenities/customer rating, etc. I managed to snag the Hojo MLK weekend for $105/night doing that, which I am thrilled with. It's no longer there for that weekend, but I'd been watching their express deals and when it popped up on priceline, I figured out it was the Hojo and jumped on it. I was right! I've never booked one myself, but I've seen reports of WDW onsite hotels popping up on priceline/hotwire.

1st week of November! And Hotwire scares me lol! Maybe if it was just me and DH, or if it was only for a couple days, but I need a bit more assurance for a week long stay with kids . Thanks for the Hotwire tips though, I’ll keep them in mind if I ever do use it!

Desert Inn is showing $119 for Monday 11/4 - Friday 11/8. It's right at the crosswalk. It's not fancy, but it's clean enough and you can't beat the walk. I've stayed there twice. There's a free breakfast (which is lame, but if all you need is cereal and juice, it's fine) and the rooms way at the back are kind of dark. But if all you need is a place to shower and sleep it's okay. I'd prefer that over a Motel 6.
