I know Candy Cane is closest. But will I be disappointed in the room?

Hi There.

I can only give input on Embassy Suites South, on Harbor, in Garden Grove. It's about a mile down the road from DL/DCA.

Good Points:)

1. The rooms are really nice. Beds are comfortable. Furniture in the living room area is stylish. The bathrooms are true Hilton style. Very nice, new and have Neutrogena products.

2. It's all suites. So you actually get two rooms. We had a queen-queen suite which came with 2 queen beds in the bedroom and a pull out bed couch. Having the extra space is so nice, especially if you have a napping child.

3. Free full breakfast with cooked to order omelettes as well as just about everything else you could think of. They don't mind if you bring your own containers and fill up on milk either!

4. Free (yes free) cocktails from 5:30 to 7:30. Enough said.

5. Great staff.

6. Room service and the food is great. The grille downstairs has huge portions. Enough to share.

7. Speaking of food, Buca Di Beppo is right there in the parking lot. Yum!

No-so-good points:(

1. My biggest complaint is that they did away with their private shuttle to DL. Now you have to use ART. ART is fine if you are there during peak times of the year and/or do not need to take a small child back to the hotel for nap time. During non-peak times, they inexplicably schedule a mid-day break from 12:30 to 2:00-ish. Uh, yeah. Isn't that when I need the shuttle to take my kid back to sleep? It's inconvenient, for sure. Plus the shuttle driver lied to us one day and told us that another shuttle would be by in a few minutes...I guess He meant 90 minutes...when he left us stranded at DL one day right at nap time.

(continued)...

Not-so-good points

2. They only had 2 sets of working washer/dryers in the whole hotel. That's not enough if you're there during busy times.

3. They seemed to have a lot of elevator problems while we were there, but then that is probably not uncommon.

Having said all of the above, I would stay there again. My whole family truly enjoyed the hotel. However, I'd have to rethink the ART-nap-mid-day break problem. If we end up going again before my son can make it til 2:00 before he naps, we may not stay there next time.

Good luck with your choice!:earsgirl:

Sheraton -- without question in my opinion is the best of the three hotels you have listed. they have their own shuttle. The rooms are comfortable. they are very accommodating.

As an aside, if you are a government employee, nurse, or teacher, you get a special rate. Can't beat it.

7 more days until WDW! :bounce: :bounce:

365 more days until FL to CA cruise!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I stayed at the Candy Cane 3 years ago and really enjoyed it. They had a complimentary breakfast which was better than most continental breakfasts, and the setting is very nice. Lots of foliage. And it truly is within walking distance. I would definately stay there again. Good luck with your decision!!

In June 2003, we (Hubby & I in one room and my Sis and her three kidlets in another). We loved the Candy Cane Inn. We enjoyed it so much, that the three days that hubby & I stayed at the Dis. Hotel, after my sis & the kids left, was a dissapointment. The staff, the grounds, the towels, the beds and even the decor, beat the DH, especially when you look at the price difference. I highly recommend the Candy Cane Inn. Hope this is of some help.

One of our first trips w/ the kids was at the Candy Cane. They still talk about it today. The rooms were ok. First night they only had a room facing the street and that was SOOOO noisy that we were moved the next day. Having something to eat there for free before you go to the parks is nice. I remember lots of kids in the pool. We sure did get there quickly, they had their own bus then. I don't know if they still do or not.
